Picturing the Past 101: Rotarians and the Dixie HotelPosted Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at 11:44 AM
Shelbyville Rotarians in front of the Dixie Hotel in 1922 or 1923. (Submitted photo)
From left, standing, are Albert Thomas, M.B. "Pete" King, Ulric W. Gunter, Frank B. Shapard, Rev. W.P. Crouch, E.B. Reed, W.P. Cooper, Dr. T.R. Ray, H.B. Cowan, A.B. McGill, (anyone noticed that in so many old photos people are identified only by initials?), Eustace Williams, James Aleck Tate, Elijah C. Huffman, club president Howard B. Shofner, H.P. Adams, Weakley Ruth, York P. Nicholson, E.B. McGrew and A. Bain Stewart. Kneeling are E.B. Maupin Sr. and J.O. Fly.
Many of these Rotarians' names are still recognizable to even younger people today, and many have descendants living in Bedford County.
It appears that the old hotel, even that many years ago, had already seen better days. Looks like an awning's falling down on a lower right side window.
