Picturing the Past 104: Cedar Grove SchoolPosted Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 12:03 PM
Students and faculty of Cedar Grove School, which was located west of Unionville, in the early 1900s. Can you identify anyone? (Photo submitted by Kathy Haynes)
Recognize anyone in this photo? This is Cedar Grove School, which was located west of Unionville during the first half of the 20th century. This photo, contributed by Kathy Haynes, is undated but obviously from the early 1900s.
Go here for a larger view.
The school closed in 1945, Kathy said.
This ID search is part of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church's homecoming celebration on May 15, in which the 100th anniversary of the current sanctuary will be celebrated. The 11 a.m. worship service will be followed by a potluck dinner and decoration of Cedar Grove Cemetery at 2 p.m.
Members are seeking photos and memories about both the church and the school. The church was formed in 1939 as a merger of Mt. Zion Protestant Methodist Church and Cedar Grove Episcopal Methodist Church, which once stood side by side at the intersection of Manier Road and Cedar Grove Road near Unionville.
And, while we're in the general area, there was some talk in the office about Old Pencil Mill Road the other day. Where exactly was the mill, who operated it, etc.?
We're back: Sorry about missing the PTP blog last week. We had a major computer problem at the T-G which slowed our production process and I didn't have time to track down any photos. Computer's fixed and we're back in action.
