Picturing the Past 133: ip2 on the track

Posted Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at 12:21 PM

One of the well-known ip2 race cars, parked with several others at Landers Recappers. (Photo submitted by Brent Lokey)
Thanks to Brent Lokey for emailing this photo of several race cars, in particular the ip2 car at right.

Quite a few cars have carried the ip2 number. I'm guessing this was probably one of the early ones. And I suspect one or more readers can name those who drove the ip2s.

I'm guessing this photo is from sometime in the 1960s.

Where was the Landers building in the background? Is this the same one as today before remodelings or was this somewhere else?

This is one of my favorite pictures. This pic was on Bridge St. Why has no one ask who the little boy in the 7up car is and it is not me or anybody related to me. Lets see who knows.

When I worked for Dixie Service Station I use to got to Landers and pick up tires. They were located on Bridge Steet.

Pretty sure this is the same location that is presently occupied by Landers Tire. The building on Belmont was Carney's Paint, Wallpaper and Venetian Blind. Before they started the tire recapping they, Gilbert and Elbert, had the Three Way Shell Station at Lewis Avenue and Cannon Blvd.

Kinda looks like Belmount to me, where Limbo's Paint was at one time and I think a day care is now???
