Lock your cars!

Posted Monday, January 23, 2012, at 12:54 PM

While writing the police blotter for Tuesday's T-G I was struck by the number of reports of breakins involving unlocked vehicles.

Someone in the Alton Avenue-Vandy Avenue area was apparently going through, grabbing door handles and taking from unlocked cars.

Shelbyville's no longer like Mayberry (if it ever was). These days, we've got to hit that button and lock 'em.

Good Advice~! I feel like a lot of property theft crimes are a crime of opportunity. So at least make it harder for thieves to take your stuff.

Copper theft, break-ins, home burglaries, robberies, and an increase in meth and crack related arrest....even Nashville now has several murders every night, or shootings anyhow...I may not correctly predict this but I think before long we will be so tired of this, that someone will just shoot someone that breaks in on them or tries to rob them...If your prepared for it when it happens and just shoot a few maybe we can get back to the quality of life we once had when we could leave the screen door open for the breeze and there was no constant living in fear walking up the parking lot of Walmart or Kroger...I worry about my folks at their age in this town anymore!...It should be mandatory to spend a minimum of 20yrs in jail to steal anything in a crime with a weapon of any kind and mandatory drug screening of anyone convicted of stealing anything....maybe that will curb it some.... there's just to much stealing going on around here!
