These were identified as the 1950-51 Shelbyville Junior High boys basketball team and cheerleaders. (T-G File Photo by Glen Prince)
A reader brought by this photo he's identified as the 1950-51 Shelbyville Junior High (is that what it was called then? boys basketball team. From the trophy they're holding it looks like they may have won a tournament.
Those in the photo are listed on the back as, first row from left, Roseland Penn, unidentified, Donna Smith Sepull, Tommy Reed; second row, Billy Thomas, Jim Adcock, Buddy Haynes, Joe Coffey, Junior Cook, Charles Lowe, Joe Gleaves, Red Grogan; back row, David Smotherman, Morris "QBall" Haynes, Bobby Uselton, Bob Thomas, Lloyd Adamson, -- Craddock, coach Niles Todd.
This was stamped on the back as a Times-Gazette photo so at some point I could probably search the files and find the missing names.
Can anyone tell if this was made next to the old Bryant Street building that was demolished - or next to what's now the school adminstration building on Madison Street? Those windows look like the Madison building, and I do remember the older building.
This one goes back a little further than I've been going in recent months, but we'll still post some older stuff occasionally if there's interest.
