Picturing the Past 158: At the office

The interior of the South Main Street office building, just down from The Fly, when it was Duck River Electric's headquarters.

It's the office building on South Main Street, still in use today, built in the 1930s for Duck River Electric. Duck River moved down the street to today's Shelbyville Power Co. building in the 1950s, and Shelbyville Power moved into the building pictured. When Duck River moved to its current building in the 1960s Shelbyville Power made another move down the street. Today it houses several different firms.

This shot, from the National Archives, was apparently made sometime in the 1930s or 1940s. Unfortunately the calendar on the wall inside a closed office blurs when I blow up the photo.

Those desks look so bare without computers, although the guy in the foreground at left has an ashtray. Wonder if someone told 'em to clean up their desks for the photographer?
