Picturing the Past 161: Back on stagePosted Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 1:58 PM
Recognize these guys from a 1968 talent show? (T-G file photo)
Looks like the singer on the left was giving it everything he had. That reminds me that I'm trying to remember the name of a singer from Shelbyville who had a national R&B hit in the late 1960s. Some of you, no doubt, will know who I'm talking about. Bedford County's had a lot of talented musicians over the years. I'm surprised there haven't been more sign recording contracts and become famous. Picturing the Past is featured each Tuesday in this blog. Reader contributions are welcome. That does indeed look like Robert Earl. We were playmates when we were children. Robert Earl also worked at a furniture store on Holland Street sometime around the early 60s.
By the way Robert Earl's last name was Sparrow. I was saddened to hear back several years ago that Robert Earl had passed away at a much too young age.
Robert Earl Sparrow is his correct name. I also played with him some while a member of Tony and Playboys band. He was a terrific singer and a great guy!
Robert Knight sang "Everlasting Love" in 1967. I think he may have been from Bedford Co. or some of his family. He sang this song at the Cellar when the song was still popular. It became 'our song'.
