Worker safety

Posted Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at 1:02 PM

You've likely heard of the hundreds of workers killed in factory fires in Pakistan this week. Blocked exits and windows kept many victims from escaping.

Think back 100 years ago and the same types of fires were happening in the United States before safety standards were put into effect.

Today, U.S. politicians argue about the power of "big government" with Republicans arguing that business faces too many regulations and Democrats on the defense. Throw some talk for or against unions in the mix as well.

I agree there are some ridiculous regulations, but worker safety shouldn't be included in any cuts.

Most of this talk is just pre-election hyperbole. I doubt much will ever really change, no matter who's in power.
