I know everyone knows how extremely hot its been of late, and we all know to drink more liquids to try and stay hydrated. Thats all and good......but we can't forget our dogs. I'm sorry to say but the in the neighborhood that i live in there are some of us that seem to forget or just plain don't care to give their dogs refreshing cold water!!

It absolutely breaks by heart to see any animal for that matter standing there tongue in the dirt dying of thirst.

I try to do what i can here, so at night i take a 5 gallon

bucket filled with ice and water and go around to at least 3 houses and give water to other peoples dogs. Its kind of hard for me to tell someone you don't know to please give your dog water...not sure how they might take it, so for now i will continue my covert night missions. I just hope and pray the my neighborhood isn't a reflection of all neighborhoods...i doubt it. I'm a huge animal lover i think i got it from my mother. My nmother used to feed the stray dogs in her neighborhood. I hope that this might bring a little light to this sad reality. I know i'm getting of the subject alittle, but i think that most people are aware of the Michael Vick situation. I used to be a big fan of Vick...but what he has supposedly done is beyond awful to me. I just don't understand how a human being with any kind of heart could subject their dogs to fight to the death. If it is true that he actually elctrocuted, drowned, and beat dogs to death....then he deserves to be sent away for a long time, but then again this is my opinion and i know that there are people that don't feel like i do..... although i don't understand why all people wouldn't feel like i do IF he is guilty of these crimes.

Thank you SO much for this post! So many people don't realize that even outdoor animals are not equiped to take this kind of heat. Thanks for doing what you can.

I know how you feel, I used to live next to a bunch of neighbors who would leave their dogs on a chain without food and water. The best way I dealt with the situation, was my mother gave me a dog house, and I had an extra futon mattress..so I took it to the neighbors, and kindly told them I wanted to give this to them, for their dog. And I also told them I had been feeding and watering their animal when I noticed there was nothing for the dog. They were fine with it, even if they wouldn't take care of the dog themselves. I don't think someone will get too upset, as long as they see you are helping their animal.

Shoot, we are watering the deer, turkeys, racoons, possums, squirrels snakes, birds and what else we can only guess! Everyone is hurting. Maybe this weather is FINALLY turning.

I think it is....

You can pray for rain all day long, but you must prepare your fields for them.

I think somehow, somewhere, somebody prepared their field, thank god for the rain.

I hope everyone takes proper care of their animals... Don't forget about the children either, they need lots of liquid rejuvenation... Gatorade and Water are the best...
