Congratulations to our all seniors. Formal ceremonies will be held in late June at Calsonic Arena but if you see a senior this week, tell them you appreciate them. It's been a tough spring for them all.
The last time I wrote “Friday” blog notes was following the tornado in Putnam County. Wow, has a lot changed since then. It's been a busy and quite unsual spring.
It's graduation time, but we're celebrating in ways we never fathomed.
I was at Community High School this morning, and as most of you know, that's where I graduated. I choked back a few tears as I saw the graduates lined up down the road and turning into the school to go around and meet their teachers and principal.
It brought back memories in a lot of ways, but this was certainly we never did-have to drive around the school in our cars as part of Senior Day.
You see, this would have technically been graduation weekend for Bedford County seniors. But, due to COVID-19, formal ceremonies have had to be pushed out to late June at Calsonic Arena.
What did occur Friday were a lot of beautiful young teens being honored in a much different way. Actually, I kind of liked it better than sitting in an auditorium on Senior Day. But that's just me.
I saw a lot of people I knew, of course, and couldn't believe that it had just been a few years ago (wink, wink) since we walked down the old gym to receive our diplomas.
Times have certainly changed.
I do feel for those students who won't get to enjoy that same pomp and circumstance in May.
No matter, they're will still be honored for all their hard work.
So, my hats off to all the local seniors-I have family graduating as well. You're stronger than anyone we know. Bless you all.
I continue to pray for Bedford County, as we lost another citizen this week to the virus. It's been tough wearing those masks, but I encourage everyone to at least do that just a little bit longer. We are kicking the virus out, but we're going to have to stick together in this thing.
It's not over . . . until it's over. That has never rung so true.
