Sorry, wrong numberPosted Monday, November 19, 2007, at 2:55 PM
We ran a story in the paper recently about the Toys For Tots program, and today, two different women (who I suspect may be connected, since they were both AOL addresses and the messages arrived at the same time) used the "send story comment" feature of our web site to request assistance, listing the ages and genders of their children.
The newspaper doesn't have anything directly to do with this particular charity; all we did was publish a story about it. But these women didn't seem to understand that and seemed as if they were asking us for assistance. I tried e-mailing both of them back to tell them they needed to talk to Toys For Tots directly. In one case the message bounced back, saying that the recipient's e-mail was full. Neither of the women left any contact information other than e-mail. (I'm not sure how they were expecting to receive their children's toys.) I can only hope the one woman gets her message and tells the other, so that they can make contact with the people who are really in a position to help. |
