  • What a rip-off!!! A person has to pay for a subscription to get a hard copy of this newspaper, which that's understandable. To get the E-Edition you have to have a hard copy subscription or pay to see it online. You'd think this newspaper makes enough money that high resolution photos could be downloaded for free. Not only that, even if a person wanted to pay for a copy of the photo, the prices are outrageous. $4.50 for one 4x6 photo??!! They're only $3.00 from the photographer at HGYSL. There's a website called Winkflash where you can upload your digital photos and have them printed for 8 cents each. The shipping is also very reasonable, only 89 cents for up to 10 photos, $1.49 for up to 20 photos and so on.

Even Wally-World is cheaper on their photo prices.

  • Yes, you're right, you can upload your own photos or print them yourself for less. But what you're buying here is not just the print; it's the content. The prices we've set are quite a bit lower than the default prices suggested by our third-party provider (and we started getting orders even before we reduced the prices to their current level). We think it's a good value.

  • time2relax,

You can not blame the paper for wanting to make extra money.I lot of news papers,(small one) are going under because a lot of people read the news on line, and not pay for a news paper the old fashion way.I would love to be able to set down and read the Shelbyville paper every night, but I can not I live in another state; so I go on line and read what they have to offer. Thanks Times Gazette.

  • time2relax,

The point of this is, the photo images BELONG to the newspaper. You got what you paid for when you receive your copy of the paper. You are still free to cut it out of the paper and save the photo. If however, you would care for a better copy, you are free to purchase it directly from the OWNER. Since most of this business would be for ONE photo only, (child's picture in paper, etc.), and considering the hassle of getting the picture into hard copy, Their price seems more than reasonable. This is a gracious public service for which they deserve compensation.

  • So my question comes in as wondering when they put the pictures on the website, say a picture of a child taken at random.....can they use the picture without permission of the parent to start with?
