We got an anonymous, accusatory e-mail from someone questioning why such-and-such a story isn't showing up on the "most viewed" list on our front page.

The "most viewed" and "most commented" lists are updated once a week -- They're not real-time. That's why the lists are labeled "Last week's most read stories" or what have you. They are created by a computer program on our servers in Missouri. We have no local control over them, no way to exempt any story or jigger with the results. (And why would we want to, anyhow?) Unless there's some sort of technical problem, and I don't know of any, what you see are the real results.

I agree . . . the comments seem to reflect the many that we have had on this website and you are right, those who do the criticizing seem to be the ones that are not affected by the situation.

But at least the comments are lively!!!

I still don't think those who are critizing have ever actually lived here or in a town like it.

Honestly, I am wondering why I am getting alot of RSS errors from the paper too. I think there might be a technical problem the server might be having too. I think that is why the reader might be wondering the same thing?

A cron can be setup to run each hour to update the most viewed, popular and commented with very little time involved. Maybe they can see what is going on? BTW that email was not sent by me? I can manage without the RSS updating.

Has anyone noticed that today's Tennessean has a feature article on Shelbyville and the cultural clash with the Somalis?

The news writer pretty much painted Shelbyville as full of bigots and racists. :-(
