Our current poll, about favorite characters in Christmas-themed movies, was one of those last-minute, I've-got-to-change-the-poll enterprises. But it sparked a conversation between me and my co-worker Mary Reeves, who suggested that we might do a poll later in the holiday season about who is your favorite actor to portray Ebenezer Scrooge.
My favorite Scrooge is Alistair Sim, although my overall favorite version of "A Christmas Carol" is the 1984 TV movie starring George C. Scott. He's good, although less of an ectomorph than one expects of Scrooge, and everything else about the TV movie is spot on: David Warner as Bob Cratchit, Roger Rees as Fred, Edward Woodward as the Ghost of Christmas Present and on and on.
Mary likes Albert Finney in the 1970 musical "Scrooge."
We both have a fondness for 1992's "The Muppet Christmas Carol," with Michael Caine as Scrooge and Kermit as Bob Cratchit.
What about you? Who's your favorite Ebenezer Scrooge?
