AccusationsPosted Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 8:43 AM
I find myself having to repeat something I blogged a week ago today.
The Times-Gazette web site comment feature isn't intended for making accusations against specific people. When and if criminal behavior becomes a part of the public record, and we report on it, you can certainly respond to those stories, within the limits set by our Terms of Service. But until that point, there's a risk that posting about someone's supposed dirty deeds could be considered defamatory. Sometimes, we have to err on the side of caution. Also, remember that our enforcement is in part complaint-driven. Please help us by flagging comments you believe to be offensive or defamatory. |
John I. Carney is city editor of the Times-Gazette.
