Remembering Kendall

It was 10 years ago today that an airplane chartered by the Oklahoma State University athletic department crashed in Colorado, on the way back from a men's basketball game. All 10 on board the aircraft were killed.

My best friend from college, Kendall Durfey, was one of them. Kendall and I were undergrads at Oral Roberts University; Kendall went on to OSU, earned his master's, and went to work for the university, producing instructional videos and serving as an engineer for the radio broadcasts of OSU sporting events.

Please keep the Durfey family, and the families of all 10 who were killed, in your prayers today.

Here is more information about the crash, and here are some parody radio commercials Kendall and I produced together when we were at ORU.

John, it is difficult to lose any of our acquaintances or loved ones and although it has been ten years, I am sure the memories are still clear. My condolences to Kendall's family and friends.

Last night's OSU-Texas basketball telecast gave almost continuous play to the tragedy, including pre-game and halftime ceremonies, and dozens of in-game references, and showed the very impressive hallway that has individual memorials for each of these 10 men. They also retired the #10 jersey, in honor of those lost (no OSU jersey had ever been "retired" before). The memory of Kendall's passing, as well as the other nine men, will be enshrined at Stillwater as long as there's an Oklahoma State University. Comforting thoughts to you, John, and to the families of those who were lost in Colorado that night. Thanks for remembering...
