School days

Posted Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at 7:24 PM

One day last week my husband and I were talking about memories we had from school. Neither of us were what one consider "model students" but we had our good times.

Darrell went to school in East Tennessee. He like to pride himself on the fact that his elementary school was ranked as #1 in the U.S. while he was in attendance. His school was so good, in fact, they would take each class to the school system owned summer camp on the shores of the Tennessee River. Can you imagine your teachers and principal taking your entire class to camp for a week? They would have class on the campgrounds learning such things as building fires...I don't know about you, but the thought of some of the boys I went to school with building fires isn't such a good idea...On that note, Darrell had any good memory I ever thought about mentioning topped. The only memory I had that slightly resembled an activity like that was the school picnic at the park. You know, the one where we looked for Crazy Ray on the nature trail.

I guess my good memories from school had to do with a few teachers that I had. My favorite teacher of all has to be Mrs. Lyn Shelton. I can't exactly pin point what made Mrs. Shelton my favorite teacher, I just knew that she loved me and wanted me to do well at everything that I tried. I had lots of good teachers and a few that the school board should have thought twice about before they hired them.

Now that I think about it, most of my good school memories never really happened at school.....I enjoyed the non school affiliated extra curricular activities!

So, now it's your turn. Tell us about your favorite school memories.

SOME OF MY GREATEST MEMORIES ALL HAPPENED AT SOUTHSIDE. THE ONE THAT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER WAS IN THE 1ST GRADE AND SCHOOL HAD JUST STARTED. I DID NOT THINK YOU HAD TO SIT STILL AND PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THE TEACHER SAID. MRS.RITA HUFFMAN LAID A BOOK ACROSS MY BACK AND I GOT TO SEE ALL THE STARS IN THE SKY AT ONCE. AFTER THAT I UNDERSTOOD HOW TO SIT STILL AND PAY ATTENTION. IF A TEACHER DID THAT TODAY THE WHOLE WORLD WOULD BE ON HER AND SHE WOULD NOT HAVE A JOB.TODAY I REMEMBER HER WITH MY FONDEST MEMORIES AND HAVE THANKED HER MANY TIMES FOR THE DAY SHE SHOWED ME THE STARS.
