VacationPosted Monday, August 20, 2007, at 8:00 AM
Sorry for the absense last week, but it was family vacation time! I went to Panama City with my husband, my daughter, my husbands parents, and their big dog, Lucky.
I was a little worried about going to Florida this year because we all rode together in our van...Yes, I was in the car for 7 hours with my in-laws, a 100 lb. dog and a 2 year old! But, you know what, it wasn't that bad. My mother in-law is great! She's not the typical nosey, bad mother-in-law. She is great with my daughter and a good friend to me. My father-in-law kept Darrell company as he drove the graves family bus. As far as Ava and the dog, the two that caused much concern before the trip began, well, they were the very best! Lucky just perched himself in the backseat and enjoyed the ride. I couldn't have asked Ava to be a better car rider. Panama City is a whole different story. The last time I was in Panama City was 10 years ago. I went for Sr. trip when I graduated from high school. Back then, it was a pretty decent place. I guess if you're 17 and out of the house fot the first time, anything if good, but 10 years later, it's not the place I want to take my daughter. Panama City is not for families. I have issues with stores called "Condom Knowledge" and advertisements for "herbal pipes" and various other things that you wouldn't find in a respectable store. Speaking of respectable stores, if you're in the market for a t-shirt or hermit crab, Panama City is the place to be! We stayed at the Pelican Walk condominium. At one time, it was probably very very nice. These days, not so much. I wish you could've seen the amount of mildew that was glued to one of the bath tubs! The sad thing is, I bought some mildew remover and sprayed it one time and the mildew disolved. That's all it took....why couldn't the housekeepers do that? Basically, we cleaned the condo from head to toe before we even looked at the beach. All I am going to say about the beach is, if you smoke, please don't leave your butts all over the sand! and if you drink beer on the beach, please put your empty cans in the trash too. I don't know if it's because our condo didn't care for their section of beach, or people are just incondsiderate, but the beach was filthy. On the positive side, the food was great and we had family pictures taken by a photographer that I HIGHLY recommend, The trip was fun. Although next year, I assure you that we will be going back to Seaside, Fl. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Although I've been to Florida once, I have to agree with you about the way Panama City is presented. I was expecting something more tastful, such as Destin (which is so beautiful), but it seems Panama City is just one party stop. How was the weather there?
The weather was fantastic! It felt much better there than it does here.
We have always found the accomodations and beaches in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to be clean and well kept. The crowds are not outrageous either. Alabama does have some beauiful beaches too. Another great family beach destination for quiet and quaint beaches and hotels is Tybee Island, Georgia, also called Savannah Beach. It is just outside Savannah.
