Isn't modern technology super?
As I type this, I am sitting outside watching my daughter swim. Today I entered the world of wireless internet. With this, I have internet access basically anywhere. I have to admit, I am spoiled by most of what communication technology has to offer. It's prpbably a sad thing that I feel naked without my cell phone. And that I have to check my email, myspace, and news numerous times throughout the day. I love being "connected!" Things have changed quicky and drastically within the past 10 years. In August of 1997 I was just entering college. At that point, the internet was still a very new thing. Not many people had it in their homes yet, nor did we know what an impact it would make on our lives. I have always been a slight tech nut, so I was one of the first of my friends to have the internet in my home. On Friday nights my friends would come over and pick fights with people in chat rooms. I was always too nervous to take part in this beacuse I just knew that those people on the other side of the screen would find me and kill me. Possibly not a far fetched idea, but the reality of that happening was slim. at that time, of course. Fast forward to August 2007 and the internet is a major player in just about evey aspect of out lives. You check email, talk with family across the world, check team sports, movie and tv schedules, or even find a new recipe for supper. I don't know about you, but I sure would hate to live without it. I don't have a laptop, and I was so envious of all the people at BarCamp who did .... they were taking notes, looking up web sites and even Twittering each other while the presentatons were going on ....
I, for one, am very grateful for what the world of technology and mass communications has become. So many years ago, there was no way to look at another part of the world without the pictures in books. Now, you can access just about any picture or any information you want on any place, or anything. It's a great thing that our troops are overseas fighting and we can now talk back and forth with them, rather than waiting to hear some good or bad news.
while I have yet to buy a laptop I am addicted to my pocket pc! I have my internet no matter where I go plus I love having my phone alert me when I get an email via wireless sync. I love being able to look up info on a restaurant when out & about and just having the info right in my hands.
yep I am hooked :)
If you just got your wireless up and running, be sure to setup your security feature. Just food for thought.
