To knit or knot.

Posted Thursday, September 6, 2007, at 9:29 AM

I have a new hobby.

I am trying to learn how to knit.

Knitting is hard!

My sister in law and I have been discussing new things that we would like to learn. We talked about sewing, but she could not figure out how to use her sewing machine. I was going to buy my own, but since she had so many problems, I just gave up on that idea. We had big dreams of making dresses for our daughters with hair bows to match. I have no problem with the hair bow thing, I mastered that last Christmas, but sewing is another monster!

Now, Heather has infected me with the knitting bug.

Last Monday, Heather showed me a little pink and black hat. I thought it was cute, I mean it was sitting on the head of a teddy bear, but I didn't think much about it until she told me that she made it herself. I could not believe it! I just had to lean how to make hats!

Fortunately, for me, we had time for a knitting lesson since the guys had disappeared upstairs to play guitars and our "precious" children were playing instead of fighting.

I just couldn't believe how easy it was! Right after we left I made Darrell stop at Wal-Mart so I could get my own knitting supplies.

When we got home, I knitted, knotted, and cussed. It was much easier at Heather's house.

Finally, last night I would say that I was about half way successful. I made a hat for Ava, but it's still a little short and the brim is a mess, but I am getting better.

I had big dreams about knitting blankets for Christmas gifts and hats and scarves for the kids. Those dreams aren't' exactly dead yet. However, at the rate I am working, they aren't exactly alive.

If anyone needs any half-knitted winter hats, let me know….We have plenty in stock!

I love knitting!

I taught myself almost a year ago and I have made many blankets, scarfs and now my new thing is dish cloths (they are easy, best gifts everyone can use!).

Check out www.lionbrand.com or it could be www.lionbrandyarn.com

They have some awesome free patterns and they are very easy.

If you can post some pictures of what you have made. I'm sure we would all like to see them!

Keep on Knitting!

I think the Knit Kit teaches lessons. You might call and see. Also, there is a show on DIY Network called Knitty Gritty. You may could learn something from their web-site also. I don't knit, but have been pondering that and crochet. I already cross-stitch and scrap-book and barely have time for that much at all. Especially in summer.

Good luck and keep us posted!

OH, congratulations on learning and trying to revive the hobby! I'm a self taught knitter. I bought a kit called "I Taught Myself Knitting" at Wal Mart in the yarn/craft department. If you need any FREE help, let me know. I'm a moderator of the knitting boards on www.crafterscommunity.com and there are lots of links there to help people learn the tricks of the craft. I'd be happy to help in any way I can.
