KNOWLEDGE VERSUS WISDOM.Posted Friday, August 31, 2007, at 12:38 PM
In this day and age we are bombarded with all kinds of knowledge whether from books , TV, Internet or what have you. Knowledge is great , but if you don't have wisdom it is useless. Knowledge-understanding gained by actual experience, something learned and kept in mind. These are just two of the meanings of the word. I have literally met people who would have to ask for instructions on how to boil water ,or would have a box of cake mix with all the instructions on the box and be as lost as last years tax return. The place where I work at hires several temps to get the summer push done, and I was given one to train and we were going over the safety guidelines, and I discovered something amazing he could not read. High school graduated , or he was supposed to be. whereas wisdom is the way you use all that knowledge. Wisdom- a wise attitude and course of action. Most parents tell their kids what to watch on TV or not to watch. All the knowledge is fine ,but without the wisdom to use it ,it could be dangerous. Science is vast knowledge but hardly any wisdom to make the correct choices. Teaching our kids all the book knowledge is fine , but they need to acquire the wisdom also to make the best use of that knowledge. I have met some very "dumb"smart people and some wise "dumb" people in my life. Be Blessed!

Cancer is caused by many things besides smoking or second hand smoke. A child who has never smoked or been around smokers that dies with cancer would have no effect on a smoker. In fact it could very well have the reverse effect..If a child dies with cancer and a smoker is close to the child then this smoker may say " Hey, he never smoked or wasn't even around smokers but he had cancer..so I may get cancer whether I smoke or not"
I dunno, I guess it all boils down to wisdom or knowledge.
Sometimes, for instance, children who suffer from cancer-others will see this, maybe those who smoke, and it will help them to stop smoking. Children and others who die in these horrible accidents, others see it happen, and perhaps those people have caused this tragedy on someone else before. That's who I think benefits from their suffering.
AMEN... But it makes you wonder, still.. Who does the needless suffering benefit? Who is god teaching a lesson to? I don't understand it. I love god, and I think he WANTS us to question things, not just sick back and pretend that everything happens for a reason. People change their own fate all the time, and they are given choices to make.
BUT STILL, who benefits and learns a lesson while innocent children suffer? Especially at the hands of crazed adults. (In many cases)
I really wish that people didn't have to go through needless suffering, especially those who don't deserve it, especially the young.
Yeah I remember that accident and it was a terrible thing but I think if given the choice my nephew would have choosen a quick death as opposed to the suffering he endured.
I don't have a real big problem with death it's needless suffering I have a problem with.
That day, it was June of 2005, I believe when those two girls died on Fairfield Pike....My friend and I, another lady and a firefighter arrived right after this awful wreck at the bottom of that sharp curve right outside of town. When you are walking up to a crushed old black truck, and you see the person sitting in the middle with a piece of thick glass sticking right through her head, the driver shaking and in convulsions, but not responding..and then you look to see that the passenger side door that had been completely smashed in was-in fact-holding another body in place..it makes you wonder what on Earth was GOD thinking? And to read in the newspaper the very next day that those two girls were (I believe) just 10 and 12, and had just recently been adopted and was on their way to church, it really makes you wonder the logic behind all of that. It was the saddest thing I have ever encountered my life, but I can only hope that they went on to a better place.

Not always... People don't always learn from a death or destruction... Sometimes it makes them worse and less faithful. So the affect isn't always some rosey pitcure that people learn some great lesson in life...

I can not imagine what anybody could possibly learn by sitting by and watching a child die from a slow painful death.
Through another human life or animal life that suffers, others learn from this, and sometimes, I believe that to be the reasoning of suffering among people. Everything that a person does goes through, affects the next.

Do you think the wrath of god causes children to suffer deadly diseases? Do you think his wrath causes natural disaster that destroy thousands of lives in cities that were built to withstand the storm... Do you think it was God's Wrath that caused the tower's and other building to be damaged and/or destroyed? If you honestly think it is all about god's wrath, that would put you in the same group of radical muslims, who think god told them to bomb people, kinda like when God told Bush to start a war...
Then there are children dying in hospitals, even children dying in Africa because they couldn't tell their parents to think about the health and future of the child. I don't think there is any REASON for the suffering of children.
There is a purpose for everyone in this life, but just like Diana's nephew, I don't think it was fair for him and others to suffer for an excessive amount of time and then we just sit back and say "Well it happened for a reason..."
God gives everyone choices, but most sick children never had the choice to be sick or be healthy...
That is really awful about your nephew, but please don't mistake my faith in GOD's reasoning behind everything as a cold attempt of caring, because I do. I am very passionate for humans and animals. I have witness death twiced before my eyes, my stepdad and my real father. They suffered a heart attack, and from three types of cancer. No one ever said life was meant to be fair, but it's these types of events that make us more compassionate towards life, and more understanding in faith..because there just has to be some place better after earth....there has to be.
I have taken a stroll down the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, because I had to attend a doctor there when I was just in the 8th grade, two months after watching my stepfather die. I've seen the children, and I've even witnessed death upon two young (newly adopted-on their way to church) girls die off of Fairfield Pike..although many people search for reasons among some of the most outrageous, absurd incidents, it's where we just have to count on faith and believe that those children, the pure and innocent of GOD, are on to a better place.
I realize you don't know, I just wanted you to see everything does not happen with reason or fairness. There isn't any good that could ever come from a baby dying or children being born with horrible disorders. Children dying with cancer..sometimes when you have nothing else to do, take a stroll in Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and then tell me everything has a reason. There's nothing fair about a child laying in a bed not being able to play and do the things other children do because of cancer or other problems.
My nephew died last year with brain cancer he was 17 years old. He was diagnosed when he was 13. Up until the time they found brain cancer he was just like every other normal 13-year old..he played ball went to school..he was a kid. But after they found it he was confined to a bed and a hospital for the next 4 years. He took radiation and Chemo ..nothing helped. He just sunk deeper and deeper and closer to death every year. He had never done one thing to deserve to lie in a bed and suffer. I understand everyone dies but the suffering was needless..
This is the kinds of things that shake my faith in God..what kind of God lets a child suffer like that?
I don't really know, but from personal losses of my own, I do believe that every tragedy a person encounters, every bit of the circumstance is for a reason.
God creates life, so if he honestly thought a growing fetus wouldn't make it, he would put a stop to it..because everything happens for a reason.

I've read the past few comments, and although I may not have the answers in which you all seek, I do have answers. I'll start from the top, and if there is any confusion, please comment back and I'll be more than glad to go into further detail.

-You are exactly right on this, birth control is a form of abortion, a very early form.
-It takes science and knowledge and even more so, Wisdom to understand that an organism is an individual form of life; so yes, it is in fact murder, or death, of that form of life. A condom is a scientific way of preventing the fertilization of an egg, so in my own opinion, it is the best way of birth control there is on the market. The eating of eggs, leads on to another topic, one reason GOD gave us animals, was to eat. It isn't an abortion or murder, when you are killing to eat.
-After 4 weeks of conception, that growing fetus has a brain and a heart, and it has nothing to do with Freedom of Choice. It seems people have stopped caring about what is right and wrong, and have started worrying more about their own rights, and what they don't or do have. If a mother and a father take enough responsiblity to have sex irresponsibly, then they should have enough common sense (instead of selfishness) to take on their responsibilities. God creates life, so if he honestly thought a growing fetus wouldn't make it, he would put a stop to it..because everything happens for a reason. The comments about women and men having vasectomy and hysterectomy surgeries, that again, is science and technology at its' best. I do not see anything wrong with this, simply because alot of times it is necessary that one take these measures for their own life is at stake. I don't see either of those surgeries as "playing GOD". The fact that babies are made from petri dishes now, that is just "playing our creator" (and that is the only thing I believe to someone trying to play GOD)although it too, is science. I, for one, do not support the death penality under any circumstances, because it is not the fellow human's place to pass that type of judgement onto another. Why can't we simply leave a person in jail for the eternity of their life for the safety of others? People who do bad unto others, will get their bad fortune in the end, usually twice as bad. God created us all equal, but all unique. Through the times of Adam and Eve, because of science, we don't live our lifestyles to those days. So, with that said, these imperfections of people nowadays, could be blamed on just about anything. I don't know why people are different colors, why people are born without limbs, but I don't question it either. Not that it isn't important to me, but like I've already said, everything happens for a reason, and I'm sure through due time, everyone will get answers that they search for. The last thing I will state on this, is about the creator of GOD. I've recently discovered through these blogs that I am not a christian, I am simply a believer of GOD. I've told you all before that I form my own opinions and beliefs, and I have to agree with dc_0725..I think it is very possible that although our GOD is just, there can be other gods out there capable of creating something similar to all we know.

You are right dc, science has proven many people innocent and/or guilty who would have otherwised gone free or lived a life in prison where he/she didn't belong, all because the wisdom of such jurors was insufficient!
okay, so you support the Killing of people, that killed people to show that killing is wrong? I can accept that, what I can't accept is the "found guilty by your peers." part. That is why NUMEROUS states have abolished the Death Penalty because SCIENCE has found 100's of people on Death Row innocent, even when the WISDOM of the jurors found he/she guilty.
I don't believe in using abortion as a birth control either, but I do support choice, you take away one person's rights, then you start taking away another's rights and then before you know it, we have no rights or choices left.

I think God gave them the wisdom and knowledge, to know and understand the human body and the world we live in. Gifts that I and others long to have. There are times when they cross the line, it's called trial and error.
Abortion is not a RIGHT, Choice is the RIGHT. Suddenly, it smacks you in the face, we are NOT a dictatorship and the government does NOT tell us what to do with our own bodies.
I too have often pondered the "made in his image" thing. If that was the case, then shouldn't we all look middle eastern? I mean, we all look different, the Asians, The Indians, The Native Americans, The Mexicans, The Italians, etc. etc.

Like dianatn pointed out, the baby that Laci was carrying was viable outside of the womb and only died due to the injuries his mother sustained, that is why he got charged with murder. There are plenty of cases where the father killed the mother and since the baby wasn't viable OUTSIDE of the womb, the killer wasn't charged with the death of the baby.
I am not for or against abortion, I am for the right for women to choose what to do with THEIR bodies, I don't want some old men in Washington telling me what I can and can't do to my body. And I am sure if women in Washington told a man that he couldn't have a vasectomy because he was killing unborn babies, then they would be pretty mad too.

There is a difference in having an abortion at 3 months and having an abortion after the baby could live on it's on...I do not agree with abortions after the 1st trimester. But still that should be the mothers choice whether to continue the pregnancy. Nobody is for abortions we are just for, Freedom of Choice. There are times when an abortion is necessary and the best thing not only for the mother but for the baby as well.
Wasn't there a man by the name of Scott Peterson who was found guilty of the death of his wife and their UNBORN baby?

The Key word here in both circumstances is POTENTIAL. Until a fetus is large enough to live without the aid of the mother it is potential. Just as the egg that you stop from becoming a potential life.By taking the pill you have killed that life that COULD have been.
How can you think that killing a egg that makes the fetus not murder but yet if you wait 3 weeks it's murder..
So what about Plan B drug (the morning after pill) is that murder?
Oh really... But it's still playing god!

Birth Control changes the hormones in the body (playing God)... It causes the female to stop the production of the necessary ingredients in order to create life. It is no different than an abortion. Because you are the very same person that thinks a few cells in a petri dish is a living human being.
Those cells in a petri dish are the same cells that begin to form when the birth control kills them.
Anyways, thanks weezie for all those definitions of what wisdom, knowledge, and science.. I wonder which of three you use more on a daily basis!
Potential life is not life ,it is life that could be or might be or maybe someday will be. Of course then again if people practiced abstinence the birth control would not be needed.
I myself had a vasectomy and for all the women who have had their operations or for people who can't have kids they can still enjoy sex as God's gift.
I read where Abraham tried for years without having any luck ,but he kept trying.
To me people that use birth -control are the ones with wisdom because they are preventing a possible abortion.
Killing a life in the womb is Potential life, same as taking the birth control pill to stop fertilization of the egg it could be a POTENTIAL life and you killed that chance by taking the pill. You can't be against abortion and still take the pill..it's the same darn thing!

So, basically, you can have all the knowledge in the world, but without the wisdom, a person can have the most senseless mind. A person can have any and all information (the knowledge) on just about any given topic, but unless he understands it, unless he puts good judgement or actions behind that knowledge, then it is just something that he's learned.
Remember the faith and action debate? You cannot have faith without action, you cannot believe in something without a reason. Cloning, isn't a human experiment, it is, in fact, trying to be a creator of human life, or creator of whatever it is they are trying to clone. Whether you want to believe it is GOD that put us here or not, we are here because of someone or something, so we are trying to be of likeness to that. Abortion is also the killing of a human, but it is science that has perfected this art. There is a big difference in killing a baby after it is born, and killing a baby while it is still in the womb. Either way you look at it, it's still murder, and that human didn't get a fighting chance.

and what is "High School Graduated?" that would be high school GRADUATE and if he couldn't read, then he was failed by the system that didn't recognize that this boy went through 12-13 years of schooling without the ability to read, perhaps he was dyslexic and he had the WISDOM to fool the teachers for all those years. Either way, he is a fine example of how schools fail the kids on a daily basis.

Hmmm Instructions on products don't seem to be any clearer than this blog..if I did what the instructions said on my shampoo bottle. I'd still be in the shower: Instructions read: Lather Rinse Repeat: nowhere on the bottle does it say "Get out, you fool and dry your hair now"
