Let sleeping dogs lie.Posted Monday, October 15, 2007, at 3:08 PM
I went back and read all the comments on the blog on racism and was simply amazed.
People need to leave the past in the past. My ancestors at one time or another were slaves to somebody ,because I have Scottish, Irish, Native American, and African ancestors[wow! what a combination] Point I am trying to make is there is probably a little racism in all of us if we look deep enough. We make jokes without thinking and talk without thinking, but it is kind of funny to me that one race can make all the rude and racist jokes about their own race and they laugh and even pay to hear it, but when another race makes the same comments on the "other races" there is lawsuits and TV shows and you are posted all over the news with people calling for your head on a platter. Just recently was Imus who said the same thing that Chris Rock or Eddie Murphy has said a thousand times before. Maybe the different groups or races had better put a leash on their own . If I were to make jokes towards the Homosexuals I would be hated ,but if Ellen Degeneres does it it is a big hit. As far as the comment being on impressing my faith on somebody ,if somebody believes different than me that is fine and dandy, the ones that I am after are the ones who have no set belief or are sure you know the ones who are "lost". I look at a persons heart and go from there. After watching "Larry the cable guy Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall I could get offended because I fit a lot of their descriptions but I find it to be funny. I guess the old adage goes ,we can laugh at ourselves but nobody else. P.S has anybody seen the potpourri anywhere ,I just had Chinese food and the house kind of smells funny.[just joking]but I do love Chinese food.GET ' R DONE! I guess ,when we joke about ourselves, we know there's love and respect that goes with it.
I know I get irritated when I hear outsiders make fun of my sex, race, gender, place of origin, political affiliations, etc.
I figure they either know nothing about us or know who and what we are but care nothing about the truth.
I wince at jokes about the elderly because I hope I might be old some day.
I may even be blonde one day.
It's one thing for me and those close to me to describe one another as stupid, ugly, morally bankrupt,etc.- but anyone else who tries the same thing is asking for trouble.
Folks can mention flaws a person has if they're trying,in love,to correct those problems.
They have permission to tease if it's known there is no true malice behind what is said.
If a person wants a license to insult,he needs to lose the hate and accept the victim as family.
That's what makes the difference.
Recognize that the people around you, however different they might be,are no less (and no more) worthy of compassion and respect than you are yourself.
They are a part of you.
They belong to your world.
They are your clan.
Once that's realized,we can go after one another all we want because we won't be expressing fear and contempt in the process.
I agree with some of what you've stated, but I wonder how much time you really spent thinking about this issue or is this just an I'm tired of hearing about it response.
Consider...
Could it be that making light of ones own hardships is a means of coping?
Could it be that making light of ones hardships in public could raise awareness?
Could it be that an off-hand remark by someone unknown could be threathing because they are unknown?
...
Basically consider that humans are not perfect and there are still questionable people and always will be. Questionable people are not always upfront, they can be smart, sly, slick, deceitful and calculating sitting next to you and it not be known. Until one day something serious happens...
Do you know anyone in a hate group? If you think not, think again.
If I saw Eddie Murphy or Chris Rock with a noose, I could go to sleep as usual knowing in the morning they would still have the noose making light of it with some joke about how thier g-g-great relative stole it "fom da masta".
If I saw you with a noose, I'd call the law. Because you are unknown and could be questionable. If I did not, when I awoked I might find you without the noose, making a joke about the noose and a person different from you pointing at a tree.
Yes let sleeping dog lie, but if they awake and growl do not ignore them or turn you back. Keep your eye on them and make sure someone in charge knows. If they, fail to chain or control the animal... Well hopefully we won't have to march.
Respectfully.
In my opinion:
If you want to leave sleeping dogs lie, then don't write a blog about it, just leave them sleeping, because I sure didn't hear anybody growling or barking. Well atleast not lately.

I have thought on this and I can say with 100% conviction that I know of noone that is in a hate group. Sorry to bust your bubble.
not officially in a hate group ,but just not by membership because they fill all the requirements.
Gee Michael, I can almost guess what hate group you belong to...

Let me correct this statement for you.
