Favre Rides Off Into the Sunset

Bret Favre called it a career after 17 years as QB for the Packers. Among all the records which will guarantee him a spot in the H.O.F.. He was a god guy.
In my opinion the most prolific Q.B. since Joe Montana of my generation.
What I remember most is that he played the game right no drugs or controversies he just slung the football.
The "cheese heads" won't know how to react next season.
Like all cowboys do him and his girl are riding off into the sunset to spend life together and Bret will join that class known as "legends.
Thanks for the memories Bret Favre. Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

Love Favre!
my spell checker corrected it I had it written that way.
my apologies for the misspelling
I will be sad to see Brett Favre go. Some wished he would have left with a ring, but ultimately he will leave a legacy much greater than a precious band of gold and silver...
HAHAHA... I was wondering when someone was going to say that! So many mistakes in one blog. What else is to be expected? Michael doesn't understand history too well. That would require "research"...
Not to throw stones @ Mr. Bell, but here in Wisconsin cheesehead is one word and it is BRETT not Bret.
We will survive, another super star will come along as they always do for Green Bay. Look at the history.
I Hope Brett has a great retirement. I just hope whoever the new quaterback is, his name sounds like its spelled...like Smith or Jones.
Then perhaps you should exchange "What I remember most is that he played the game right no drugs or controversies he just slung the football." in your original blog to this: "He did not go out seeking to get hooked on drugsor something illegal"
It's funny how people you support are seemingly infallable.
He did not go out seeking to get hooked on drugsor something illegal
There's a big difference between trying to cope with chronic pain and using drugs recreationally.
Favre's sin was thinking he had no choice but trying to smother his agony with increasingly less effective meds.
Few people seek out pain clinics when they should or insist on removing as much as they can of the underlying causes of their torment.
He took the typical route of adding to his damage, letting undertreated pain increase his ability to feel pain and layering on the side effects of the prescriptions.
He treated himself rather than rely on professionals who could have prevented many of his difficulties.
Once he was forced to face the truth,he acted appropriately.
I suspect he won't resume drinking even when his medical condition would permit him to do so.
Going cold turkey and facing rehab had to be at least as terrible as enduring his injuries.
His candor and bravery must have prevented a great deal of suffering for people who might have made his mistakes but not made such a recovery.
That he used his fame to turn a private hell into public service (rather than public scandal) confirms him as a "good guy".
Too bad we reward those who entertain us with wrecked bodies that need megadoses of Vicodin, prednisone and such just to get through the day.
I hope this new stage in life brings him the comfort and peace he's earned.
LOVED Brett Favre, but just the fact that Michael STILL hasn't fully done his research bothers me. Makes me wonder, do you ever fully know what you're talking about?
I am honestly not trying to take the attention of off Favre, but my goodness, I long for the day Michael makes a completely factual statement.
Yes he did, but Brett owned up to his problem without being asked to and took responsibility and overcame the problem.
Hate to disappoint you Michael, but Brett Favre, did have a scandal involving drugs. It was well publicized a few years back, that he had an addiction to painkillers and he went to rehab for it. I hope this does not change your opinion of him. It does not change mine. I thought he was a stand up guy.
I met Brett once when I was at college. One of my friends was the college quarterback and he grew up on the same street as Brett Favre and so when a few friends and I went down to spend the weekend with him down at his home, Wayne introduced us to Brett because he was at home too. He had to be the nicest and most genuine person that I have ever met . . . he was the kind of person that definitely enjoyed the game and life but knew he wasn't above it all. He is the kind of person who you want great things to happen to and be a role model for future generations.
My sister & her husband live in the Gulfport, MS area. This past Sun. afternoon they went to a local funeral home for visitation for a man whose life was similar to the character in the movie Radio. The deceased had for years helped with the Gulfport High School football team. He loved the Packers & Brett Favre. Someone once sent him to a Packers game. At the funeral home there were many pictures displayed, but there was one section of his Packers photos.
Brett Favre was at the funeral home. My sister called to tell me about seeing Brett. It was her first spotting of him in the area in the many years she has lived there.
The fact that Brett was at the visitation for this man is further proof of your statement that Brett is a good guy.
