Light for the Dark Times Ahead.

I am going to cover a couple of few of my favorite parables of Jesus, I hope they will help somebody during these dark days and the darker ones yet to come.
20:1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 20:2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 20:3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place; 20:4 and to them he said, 'You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went. 20:5 Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. 20:6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing; and he said to them, 'Why do you stand here idle all day?' 20:7 They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You go into the vineyard too.' 20:8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.' 20:9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. 20:10 Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius. 20:11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the householder, 20:12 saying, 'These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.' 20:13 But he replied to one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? 20:14 Take what belongs to you, and go; I choose to give to this last as I give to you. 20:15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?' 20:16 So the last will be first, and the first last." Matthew 20:1-16 RSV
I never understood this one for a long time till the Holy Spirit enlightened me when my mom passed away almost 4 years ago.
The spirit explained to me that whether you live you whole life for Jesus or you come to him at the last minute of your life, he will welcome you with open arms[ make sure you have that last minute ! ] My mom had been in church her whole life, until because of medical reasons she went against church doctrine, Not Jesus doctrine and was asked to either not to come back to that church or adhere to church rules.
She did not step one foot in a church for almost 20 years, she had been sick for a long time and me and my dad getting into it made her worse so I kept my distance.
Mind you I never quit calling her or checking on her , but my dad and brother took it a different way. She had a stroke and went into a coma and never regained consciousness until the day before she died. I was not told that she was in the hospital a few weeks before her death and never got to hear her tell me that she loved me one last time.
My family and me made amends and I went to visit the last week she was alive after a week in the nursing home and then back in the hospital.
I went on a Thursday night and stayed a few hours and then went home, went to bed , then a voice said "Michael go back and see your mother" I asked my wife if she heard it and she said no, so we got dressed and called a friend of mine who was a nurse and asked if we could come back after hours, she let us in, I will forever love her for that.
I went in to see mama and she was just a lump of flesh, no sound , but shallow breathing and grunts. I poured out my soul to hear saying I was sorry for everything owning up to things that I thought she did not do that I had done, she knew!
As I cried and confessed to her, one eye barely came often and one tear rolled down her cheek, and I knew I was forgiven, as she was to.
That one tear told me all I wanted to know, If you have the chance to make amends with family, do it don't wait till almost the end, because you might not have that chance, same as repentance to Jesus, Don't wait for you may not get that chance.
God gives his mercy and grace to who and when he wants to.
Whether a Christian from childhood or a latecomer, the grace is there to receive.
13:3 And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow; 13:4 and as he sowed, some `seeds' fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them: 13:5 and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth: 13:6 and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 13:7 And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them: 13:8 and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 13:9 He that hath ears, let him hear. 13:10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 13:11 And he answered and said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 13:12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath. 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables; because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 13:14 And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive: 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them. 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear. 13:17 For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not. 13:18 Hear then ye the parable of the sower. 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, `then' cometh the evil `one', and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side. 13:20 And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it; 13:21 yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth. 13:22 And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 13:23 And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Matthew 13:3-23 ASV After the death of my mother I knew what God's plans were for me, to spread the word and to sow seed, I may come off as harsh , but don't mean too. We are at a crossroads in human history and people need to decide which way they are going, to heaven or hell.
Only one person has been doomed to hell and that is Satan himself and his fallen angels with him.
We all still have a chance to repent and come back or come to him for the first time, the choice is yours. If you can't discern the signs by the news and the bible, it is either because you don't want to see or you just don't care.
15:11 And he said, A certain man had two sons: 15:12 And the younger of them said to [his] father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth [to me]. And he divided unto them [his] living. 15:13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 15:14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15:15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 15:16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 15:17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 15:19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 15:20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 15:21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 15:22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put [it] on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on [his] feet: 15:23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill [it]; and let us eat, and be merry: 15:24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. 15:25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. 15:26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. 15:27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. 15:28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. 15:29 And he answering said to [his] father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: 15:30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. 15:31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 15:32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. Luke 15:11-32 KJV
I know we have all heard this one preached so many ways it probably has lost its meaning.
The simple fact is, when you have gone as low as you can go the only place is up.
I have been that low and my earthly family has always took me back and rejoiced.
Your spiritual family is the same way, God will take you back and forget all your transgressions.
That is where the cross came in, it is the door back to God, no other way, or you are a thief. To get to God you must go through the cross and God's outstretched arms will be there waiting, with all your needs to be given to you and your mansion will be waiting for you.
Times are dark now, but they will get darker, there is a light at the end at it is Jesus! Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Michael, Great story. I like the 3 parables you quoted too. I also liked the personal information you included, and am glad you had the opportunity that you did to see your mother again. I am sure you are very thankful.
