Somebody, Please Put a Cap On It !

Posted Friday, January 9, 2009, at 1:43 PM

This will be off my usual subject, but my favorite team is affected. The Atlanta Braves let what has to be the best Braves pitcher of my generation go over a couple million dollars yesterday.

I have the utmost respect for the team and the player, but to let a 21 year bond come apart over this?

First off Smoltz probably has more money than he will ever spend and the team ownership has took chance after chance on him after surgeries to keep him, so Smoltz could have respected the team for that.

Smoltz was one of the main reasons for the run the Braves had in the 90's. The ownership could have respected that.

Not every team can spend like the Yankees or Mets!

I love sports , don't get me wrong, but maybe the athletes and ownership needs to come down to our level for a while.

Personally, I think the wages of the star players are vulgar. Why should a ball player make millions of dollars doing what he enjoys doing when it is his team mates that make it possible for him to score. Why should he make millions and his team mates don't get squat?

They get all that fame and fortune and don't know what to do with it. Some turn their life around and do drugs and murder their friends or family members.

I would rather sit home and watch a good comedy or a romantic movie than watch sports on TV. It's like they want to put sports on every channel everyday now not just on the weekend. Put then, I don't drink beer either. Maybe that's the secret, you have to get drunk to enjoy sports on TV.

I would be happy if they put movies on TV and made all the sports games, pay TV.

I bet the players and owners wouldn't get so much money if they did.

sports don't seem as fun since I quit drinking, and if I had to pay to watch it, they would be broke.
