Then There Are The Cursings!Posted Sunday, February 1, 2009, at 2:34 PM
28:15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day, that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee. 28:16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. 28:17 Cursed shall be thy basket and thy kneading-trough. 28:18 Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, the increase of thy cattle, and the young of thy flock. 28:19 Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out. 28:20 Jehovah will send upon thee cursing, discomfiture, and rebuke, in all that thou puttest thy hand unto to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the evil of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me. 28:21 Jehovah will make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest in to possess it. 28:22 Jehovah will smite thee with consumption, and with fever, and with inflammation, and with fiery heat, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish. 28:23 And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron. 28:24 Jehovah will make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed. 28:25 Jehovah will cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies; thou shalt go out one way against them, and shalt flee seven ways before them: and thou shalt be tossed to and from among all the kingdoms of the earth. 28:26 And thy dead body shall be food unto all birds of the heavens, and unto the beasts of the earth; and there shall be none to frighten them away. 28:27 Jehovah will smite thee with the boil of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scurvy, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed. 28:28 Jehovah will smite thee with madness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of heart; 28:29 and thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and robbed alway, and there shall be none to save thee. 28:30 Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build a house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not use the fruit thereof. 28:31 Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to save thee. 28:32 Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people; and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day: and there shall be nought in the power of thy hand. 28:33 The fruit of thy ground, and all thy labors, shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway; 28:34 so that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see. 28:35 Jehovah will smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore boil, whereof thou canst not be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the crown of thy head. 28:36 Jehovah will bring thee, and thy king whom thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation that thou hast not known, thou nor thy fathers; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone. 28:37 And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples whither Jehovah shall lead thee away. 28:38 Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather little in; for the locust shall consume it. 28:39 Thou shalt plant vineyards and dress them, but thou shalt neither drink of the wine, nor gather `the grapes'; for the worm shall eat them. 28:40 Thou shalt have olive-trees throughout all thy borders, but thou shalt not anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast `its fruit'. 28:41 Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be thine; for they shall go into captivity. 28:42 All thy trees and the fruit of thy ground shall the locust possess. 28:43 The sojourner that is in the midst of thee shall mount up above thee higher and higher; and thou shalt come down lower and lower. 28:44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail. 28:45 And all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee: 28:46 and they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever. 28:47 Because thou servedst not Jehovah thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things; 28:48 therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies that Jehovah shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee. 28:49 Jehovah will bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand; 28:50 a nation of fierce countenance, that shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young, 28:51 and shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy ground, until thou be destroyed; that also shall not leave thee grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of thy cattle, or the young of thy flock, until they have caused thee to perish. 28:52 And they shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fortified walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land; and they shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which Jehovah thy God hath given thee. 28:53 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, whom Jehovah thy God hath given thee, in the siege and in the distress wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee. 28:54 The man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children whom he hath remaining; 28:55 so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat, because he hath nothing left him, in the siege and in the distress wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in all thy gates. 28:56 The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter, 28:57 and toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she shall bear; for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly, in the siege and in the distress wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates. 28:58 If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, JEHOVAH THY GOD; 28:59 then Jehovah will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. 28:60 And he will bring upon thee again all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. 28:61 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will Jehovah bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed. 28:62 And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou didst not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God. 28:63 And it shall come to pass, that, as Jehovah rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so Jehovah will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest in to possess it. 28:64 And Jehovah will scatter thee among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou nor thy fathers, even wood and stone. 28:65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of thy foot: but Jehovah will give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul; 28:66 and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear night and day, and shalt have no assurance of thy life. 28:67 In the morning thou shalt say, Would it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would it were morning! for the fear of thy heart which thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see. 28:68 And Jehovah will bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I said unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall sell yourselves unto your enemies for bondmen and for bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.
Deuteronomy 28:15-68 ASV I know that is a lot of verses, but then again, it shows what God has done, is doing, and will continue to do if man does not come back to repentance and realize that we are nothing, and can do nothing without him. Pay close attention to the verse 44 through-45 28:44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail. 28:45 And all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee: Deuteronomy 28:44-45 ASV This money that our government can't seem to decide where to spend it or on who to spend it on was borrowed from other nations, mainly China! I don't know how nations do it, but when you borrow from a loan shark and can't pay him back, you end up in a pair of cement shoes in the bottom of a river. Borrowing this money from those countries who are not to fond of us or having to buy oil from countries who flat out hate us does not seem like good buisness to me. I don't see the way out of this from man's standpoint, but God always has a plan and a Word to all the problems, and her is the one for this situation as is the answer in all situations. 3:22 Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we are come unto thee; for thou art Jehovah our God. Jeremiah 3:22 ASV I don't know what the future holds, but I believe we are on a slippery slope to the bottom from which we may not get back up. I don't know about you, but I don't want no tattoo that says "Made In China" curse means to x out, to detest as evil, or to detest. We bring the curse on ourselves but acceptance of the Cross and Jesus Christ. can and will lift that curse. This life is only a breath, worry more about the eternal life you will inherit, and where you will spend it at. Seems to me as if we are following the same paths of all great empires, dare we think we won't end the same way.

you are very welcome.
Michael, I am so thankful that you posted the scriptures concerning the cursings which God will bring on individuals, families and nations that do not follow his teachings. We like to think of God as a god of love, and yes God is a god of Love. He is also a jealous god, not of us but for us, He wants better things for us than we want for ourselves. We tend to want the fast cars and beautiful women, i.e. the things the world has to offer which will soon pass away but He wants the eternal things for us. He wants us to be holy people so we will be a fit bride for his son, Jesus the Christ.
When he chose Abraham to be the father of the Jewish race, His Chosen People, he told Abraham that He would bless those that blessed him (Abraham) and curse those that curse him (Abraham). Yet just tonight I read that Hillary was over in Isreal giving the Palistinian government our tax dollars to try and appease them when their sworn mission is to annihilate the Jewish race.
GOD WILL KEEP HIS WORD and we must remember that his payday isn't always on Friday, it could come anytime. We in America are on dangerous ground and it will affect both Christian and non-Christian.
"not the history according to Lazarus!"
i am not sure what history you are talking about.
the only thing i have taken issue with is mistakes in the chronology of events, due to your tendency to misdate things or merge them with events that occurred hundreds of years apart.
i have not challenged matters of opinion or theology.
if you were to state that the revolutionary war was fought in 1943 against the French under king Louis the 14th, that would be innaccurate. Most people would immediately recognize it as a twisted confusion of events occuring over a 400 year period. You have made historical claims no less ridiculous, merely distant enough in time that most people are not immediately familiar with the events in question.
the chronology of events in recorded history is not "lazarus history", it is facts & not under dispute by anyone.
i would not waste my time arguing cause & effect unless it was with someone with a basic understanding of the events in question, but i find it difficult to pass on gross factual errors.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Do you believe with all thy heart, and all thy soul, and all thy mind, that Jesus Christ died for all our sins, and rose again descended into Heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God our father, that all this was done so that YOU and I may have (a chance) for everlasting life? I do...
I also believe man was Destined to fail when he was created, because Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowlege of Good and Evil. Why was satan on the same earth as man to begin with? Why was man to weak to ignore him? God made Heaven and earth and he saw that it was good, God made man and all the living things in and up on the earth and he saw that it was good. Why was man tempted by evil to disobey God? After the first man and first woman, man was doomed to fail, because of satan. The Son of God was the only (HOPE) for man to be saved, Jesus Christ.
Thanks,PB and bkpow. :)
not the history according to Lazarus!
Quantumcat, your wise words remind me of a favorite hymn/praise song...
Change my heart O God, make it ever true
Change my heart O God, may I be like you...
As our love grows with the new indwelling spirit that God so freely gives to us who answer the door, we DESIRE with much PASSION to become more like Him who shed His blood so that we could live! As we decrease, He increases! We were created to give God glory, and the more we are changed into His likeness, the more glory the world sees. Isn't it amazing that He brings His glory TO us, so that it may be seen THROUGH us!
Worthy of worship, worthy of praise, Worthy of honour and glory, Worthy of all the glad songs we can see, Worthy of all of the offerings we bring ...
Yes, Lord... you are MORE THAN WORTHY!
"Know history for if not you will repeat it"
does this mean you are finally going to learn something about history, so that your historical references are not so wildly innaccurate?
Praise God that He is patient and persistent.

Where would we be without His patience and persistance?
Yes, fortunately He has a lot more than me.
I have no fear and you should not. God will take care of us all. listen to know man. listen to God speak to you. Have faith in him and ask him in Jesus name and believe in him. It is that simple. SO many like to play God they are only men with plenty of sin of their own
Maybe,we ignore Christ's request for entry into our souls for some of the same reason's we ignore humans on our doorstep.
"This place is a mess."
"If I open that door,it's going to cost me something I don't want to pay."
"I was asleep!"
"I've got more important things to do than listen to this guy."
Praise God that He is patient and persistent.
He won't break in where He's not wanted but He leaves goodies for us to find whenever we open the door a crack and makes sure we know how to get in touch with Him.
In truth,He's never away from our threshold so when we're ready to welcome Him into our lives,He's ready to enter.
Fortunately,He doesn't heed what others might tell Him as He waits.
"The lights are on but nobody's home."
He waits until we know who's at the door and feel safe to let Him in.
Once He's inside our hearts,we can't wait to give Him a key.
(Of course, after THAT,He starts putting His influence on things and telling His rivals "No,I won't 'git'. I LIVE here!")
Even when we give Him total ownership of His new home,He never forgets to include us.
He never erases our presence but, instead, helps us repair and refurbish the damaged and substandard bits while He adds just what we need to make what we treasure perform to its best advantage.
While He makes our souls a place He's comfortable dwelling in,He makes them more functional, secure, pleasant and beautiful for us.
We may not want to see Family or Friends at the door or some Drummer selling God-knows-what that we're sure we don't need but,if we give Him half a chance,(if we even indicate we'd welcome the Peace and Joy that accompany Him) He'll upgrade our lives so much that we'll never regret taking that blessed, wonderful risk.
But,there remains a solace and source of strength for us even in the most negative times when God is with us (even if we are unable to feel Him there) just as those who have shut Him out have a void in their lives even at the best of times.

quantumcat,
There is a lot to be said about your above post. I personally can attest to the statements you made.
There was a void that could never be filled no matter how much success I was experiencing. Actually the more success, the bigger the void seemed to grow. I noticed the void always seemed to show itself during the greatest heights of success. There was always something missing.
Fortunately years ago I allowed a persistant knocker to come in. He filled the vacuum like a mighty gushing wind. It wasn't His forcefulness that created the mighty gush. He had always just patiently knocked during good times. It was the deep vaccum that had grown that created the mighty gush when I opened the door and allowed Him in.
Just as there was a great vacuum during good times there is now an abundance of joy in bad times. I can appreciate your comments when you tell people that a bad day with Christ is better than a great day without him.
And the most marvelous thing is that He patiently knocks for all. I just wish everyone would open the door and let Him in and experience the Peace and Joy that travels with Him as companions. They are a hyperactive two that always let you know they are in the house.
God wouldn't have to sow tares among our wheat or send locusts or blight to devour our crops.
All He has to do is let us reap what we sow and ignore our prayers for "crop failure."
Any who seek His will and want to live according to His purposes can be spared much of this just because they won't be sabotaging themselves or placing themselves in bondage to the enemy.
But,as you pointed out,we aren't to love and serve Him just to avoid hardship in this life.
(We may very well suffer on His behalf.)
Nor are we to seek Him as a means of avoiding eternal punishment.
Those who want to be at His side will find that the worst hour with Him is better than the best hour without Him.
But,as your other thread states,He offers blessings that are richer than anything we might dream and far healthier than the false lures offered by our foe.
Virtue is its own reward just as vice carries its own punishment.
But,our choices can bring us curses and blessings beyond what we have earned or created for ourselves.
The loss of health, freedom, worldly riches, good repute and family are bad enough as is the absence of holy blessings.
But,neither these curses nor eternity in Hell nor any other adversity compares to the pain of not having God as a Friend.
God's people would (and have) suffered torment just to love Him.
They would take on all the curses above if it meant they could serve Him by doing so.
That is why martyrs have gone to the Lord in joy as people with all the world's fame, power and luxury and nothing else have sought an end to the emptiness in their existence.
Suffering and pleasure come to the just and unjust lest we turn to God for our own comfort instead of love for Him and what He stands for.
As Job and others have shown, even God's people can undergo poverty, abuse, physical and mental illness or dark nights of the soul as surely as the pawns of evil can prosper.
But,there remains a solace and source of strength for us even in the most negative times when God is with us (even if we are unable to feel Him there) just as those who have shut Him out have a void in their lives even at the best of times.
We have been given a bushel basket that can be filled to overflowing.
We can hold it out before God to let Him fill it with His wealth of love,we can permit the enemy to fill it with his traps, poisons and broken dreams or we can turn the basket upside down, sit upon it and bemoan the fact that it stays empty and any light within it is hidden and stifled.
We can blame God for sending us curses or we can take responsibility for ordering them in the first place.
