Desensitization of America Part 1

Posted Friday, July 24, 2009, at 1:47 PM

I grew up in the 70's and 80's and remember the years before cable where all we had was 2 4 5 and 8 and have noticed how the morals of America changed with television or is it the way that television changed with America?, you be the judge.

The four letter words were not said, no sex was shown and of course no nudity, those are but minor things to me as the words except for the Lord's name in vain are just words to me, I choose not to say them , but don't think less of those that do, sex and nudity go hand in hand and should not be shown during prime time where kids can see it, but that is just me.

What I am talking about is how the view of abortion is shown in such non caring ways as it is just a thing to do with no bad results.

Then again when you have people like Oprah who women adore and some men do as well preaching that there is no right or wrong and to do what you want to do if it makes you happy and the guru's that she promotes like Tolley who says that we are God and that the Bible is but one path and all that garbage I can see why people take to humanism or secularism or whatever ism you call it, it is SIN! PLAIN AND SIMPLE AND WITHOUT THE ATONING GRACE AND MERCY OF JESUS CHRIST THROUGH THE BLOOD , THAT SIN WILL BE JUDGED!

Most of the answers I get on abortion are I personally don't approve of it, but nobody should decide for a woman what to do with her body.

Even Christians are split on the subject of when life begins, conception, 3 months or at birth, my view as you all know is at conception.I base this on the following:

The Bible never specifically addresses the issue of abortion. However, there are numerous teachings in Scripture that make it abundantly clear what God's view of abortion is. Jeremiah 1:5 tells us that God knows us before He forms us in the womb. Psalm 139:13-16 speaks of God's active role in our creation and formation in the womb. Exodus 21:22-25 prescribes the same penalty--death--for someone who causes the death of a baby in the womb as for someone who commits murder. This clearly indicates that God considers a baby in the womb to be as human as a full-grown adult. For the Christian, abortion is not a matter of a woman's right to choose. It is a matter of the life or death of a human being made in God's image (Genesis 1:26-27; 9:6).

The first argument that always arises against the Christian stance on abortion is "What about cases of rape and/or incest?" As horrible as it would be to become pregnant as a result of rape and/or incest, is the murder of a baby the answer? Two wrongs do not make a right. The child who is a result of rape/incest could be given in adoption to a loving family unable to have children on their own, or the child could be raised by its mother. Again, the baby is completely innocent and should not be punished for the evil acts of its father.

The second argument that usually arises against the Christian stance on abortion is "What about when the life of the mother is at risk?" Honestly, this is the most difficult question to answer on the issue of abortion. First, let's remember that this situation is the reason behind less than one-tenth of one percent of the abortions done in the world today. Far more women have an abortion for convenience than women who have an abortion to save their own lives. Second, let's remember that God is a God of miracles. He can preserve the life of a mother and a child despite all the medical odds being against it. Ultimately, though, this question can only be decided between a husband, wife, and God. Any couple facing this extremely difficult situation should pray to the Lord for wisdom (James 1:5) as to what He would have them to do.

Over 95 percent of the abortions performed today involve women who simply do not want to have a baby. Less than 5 percent of abortions are for the reasons of rape, incest, or the mother's health at risk. Even in the more difficult 5 percent of instances, abortion should never be the first option. The life of a human being in the womb is worth every effort to allow the child to be born.

For those who have had an abortion, remember that the sin of abortion is no less forgivable than any other sin. Through faith in Christ, all sins can be forgiven (John 3:16; Romans 8:1; Colossi ans 1:14). A woman who has had an abortion, a man who has encouraged an abortion, or even a doctor who has performed one--can all be forgiven by faith in Jesus Christ.

In case you have been in a cave somewhere, here are some statistics, that when I read them shocked even me:

Reasons for abortion:

The overwhelming majority of all abortions, (95%), are done as a means of birth control.

Only 1% are performed because of rape or incest;

1% because of fetal abnormalities;

3% due to the mother's health problems.

The overwhelming majority of all abortions, (95%), are done as a means of birth control.

Only 1% are performed because of rape or incest;

1% because of fetal abnormalities;

3% due to the mother's health problems.

The rate has declined thanks to the ban of partial birth abortion by then President George Bush.God Bless you Mr Bush!

Reasons for abortion:

Wants to postpone childbearing: 25.5%

Wants no (more) children: 7.9%

Cannot afford a baby: 21.3%

Having a child will disrupt education or job: 10.8%

Has relationship problem or partner does not want pregnancy: 14.1%

Too young; parent(s) or other(s) object to pregnancy: 12.2%

Risk to maternal health: 2.8%

Risk to fetal health: 3.3%

Other: 2.1%

Numbers worldwide:

Number of abortions per year: Approximately 46 Million

Number of abortions per day: Approximately 126,000

Where abortions occur:

78% of all abortions are obtained in developing countries and 22% occur in developed countries.

Legality of abortion:

About 26 million women obtain legal abortions each year, while an additional 20 million abortions are obtained in countries where it is restricted or prohibited by law.

Abortion averages:

Worldwide, the lifetime average is about 1 abortion per woman.

Birth control is not a sin or crime, abortion is a sin and should be a crime except in certain cases!

We kill more of our own than the enemy does, people say that this nations debt will be paid off by our great grandchildren, not if we abort them all!

This makes the saying from the Cross so great:

"Forgive them Father They Know Not What They Do!"

To beat it all, the ones who are against abortions keep putting people in office who vote to keep it legal, don't figure!

I have heard that several churches and pastors have chose to not preach on this subject and others because it might effect funding for their projects or attendance, well I have no projects or attendance to worry about so I will tell it like it is, shame on the Christins who step back and cower under the pressure of being politically correct insted of Biblically correct.

Part 2 next week I am sure you know the suject, till then remember Jesus Loves you and will save you, if you come to him repent and follow his Word: God Bless!

michaelbell:

1) all that folderol about the loss of morality, etc, was exactly what "they" were saying in the '70s & '80s..... not to mention the '60s, the '50s, and so forth, back apparently to the beginning of time (considering that socrates said the same thing about 4 centuries BC)

2) this is where you pay for your practice of filling your posts with facts that are not factual. the only persons who would even bother to wade thru your long litany of made-up statistics is someone who already agrees with your pre-concieved opinions. at best you pulled them from some source with the same underlying goal in creating those statistics.

3) "The Bible never specifically addresses the issue of abortion. However, there are numerous teachings in Scripture that make it abundantly clear what God's view of abortion is."

it is abundantly clear what michaelbell's views are. however michaelbell is not god. michaelbell may consider himself god's spokeperson, but somehow i imagine god wincing every time those hate-filled fingers start pouring venom & ignorance thru the keyboard.

michaelbell;

If the laws didn't tell us that it was wrong to have an abortion or to engage in homosexuality, we wouldn't know it was wrong.

By the grace of God the law has been fulfilled.

Christians are no longer under the law, so these "alleged crimes and/or sins" are no longer crimes or sins in the hearts of the reborn Christian.

Isn't that what you teach? Once saved always saved? We are no longer under the law?

Since sins are sins because of the law, we are not sinners, but children of God.

You say the Homosexuals and Abortionists and women who have abortions are sinners and criminals because even though you love all of them, they are violating the Laws and sinning and so therefore they should be punished by "mankind".

How do you know that they are not Christians like yourself who are not bound by Abortion laws or Marriage laws.

God has already told us what their punishment will be, so why do you insist that they be punished here on earth by worldly people who are of the world and love them.

Have you not read that we are NOT of this world and we are not to become entangled back into the worldly affairs of the world.

If you want to condemn someone, condemn the Christians who think they can sin everyday and ask Jesus to forgive them that night and go back out again the next day and do whatever they want, thinking it all repeats itself everyday from bad to good again.

It's time to move on now to the drug dealers and the Senators and pages. Maybe we can squeeze in the Drunk Drivers who kill thousands of innocent people every year or the church leaders who molest children. What about the Special Drug Task Force Agents that raid the houses next door to the house they had under surveillance for weeks and kill innocent home owners in their bed.

When can we get on the Prostitutes and Call Girls and their customers? It's all the same thing!

These are worldly sins and we have been warned not to get involved with worldly sins, desires, lust and lifestyles.

-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Fri, Jul 24, 2009, at 5:27 PM

for one there is no laws against abortion therefore no penaly[excepts God's that is] being saved does not give you a lecens to sin but when we do, not if but when we have a advocate with the Father. As long as we are in this flesh we will sin whether in thought or in deed.

Without the Holy Spirit in you the choices of sin are cloudy for there is nothing to point out the right and wrong of your decisions.

If you think you are living a perfect sinless life, I feel for you for you are mistaken.

-- Posted by michaelbell on Fri, Jul 24, 2009, at 5:40 PM

lazarus, if you didn't bother to wade through the statistics how do you have any idea whether they are made up or biased? Why don't you state an opinion about the abortion epidemic instead of just belittling Michael's?

-- Posted by devan on Fri, Jul 24, 2009, at 6:41 PM

thank you Devan, it seems as if when the others have facts or stats we are to just accept them and not question, by all means check the facts.

Nearly all abortions take place in the first trimester, when a fetus cannot exist independent of the mother. As it is attached by the placenta and umbilical cord, its health is dependent on her health, and cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her womb.

Adoption is not an alternative to abortion, because it remains the woman's choice whether or not to give her child up for adoption. Statistics show that very few women who give birth choose to give up their babies - less than 3% of white unmarried women and less than 2% of black unmarried women.

Abortion is a safe medical procedure. The vast majority of women - 88% - who have an abortion do so in their first trimester. Medical abortions have less than 0.5% risk of serious complications and do not affect a woman's health or future ability to become pregnant or give birth.

In the case of rape or incest, forcing a woman made pregnant by this violent act would cause further psychological harm to the victim. Often a woman is too afraid to speak up or is unaware she is pregnant, thus the morning after pill is ineffective in these situations.

Abortion is not used as a form of contraception. Pregnancy can occur even with responsible contraceptive use. Only 8% of women who have abortions do not use any form of birth control, and that is due more to individual carelessness than to the availability of abortion.

The ability of a woman to have control of her body is critical to civil rights. Take away her reproductive choice and you step onto a slippery slope. If the government can force a woman to continue a pregnancy, what about forcing a woman to use contraception or undergo sterilization?

Teenagers who become mothers have grim prospects for the future. They are much more likely to leave of school; receive inadequate prenatal care; rely on public assistance to raise a child; develop health problems; or end up divorced.

Like any other difficult situation, abortion creates stress. Yet the American Psychological Association found that stress was greatest prior to an abortion, and that there was no evidence of post-abortion syndrome.

"lazarus, if you didn't bother to wade through the statistics how do you have any idea whether they are made up or biased? Why don't you state an opinion about the abortion epidemic instead of just belittling Michael's?"

i did not belittle michaelbell's opinion. while i do not necessarily agree on all points, i respect the opinion of those who oppose abortion, and can well understand the basis for their stance.

i did point out that his "the world has going to hell since i was a kid" routine is trite and hackneyed.

i did not waste time reading his statistics because michaelbell has an established track record. he seems to have knowledge on almost no subject, and fills his posts with things which are not true. do you continue to go to sources which consistently prove themselves not credible? there are better uses for my time than debunking ridiculous "statistics".

i also challenged his self-appointed role as god's spokesman. if god were directing his hand, god would be able to hit on actual facts now and then.

my opinion on abortion? if you really want to know, i will be glad to expound on that when i have more time.

deathtongue states above "Teenagers who become mothers have grim prospects for the future. They are much more likely to leave of school; receive inadequate prenatal care; rely on public assistance to raise a child; develop health problems; or end up divorced."

Ok you guys, here's two questions I'd like debated.

How many of these very teens were a Christian at the time of conception? How many of these teens became a Christian later? I would bet different outcomes for the two groups. It has happened ALOT and has desensitized us also.

-- Posted by countrymom on Sat, Jul 25, 2009, at 9:21 PM

I am not saying that Christian girls won't and don;t have abortions, it all depends on their viewpoint of when life begins I suppose.

Christian girls know if they do they can get forgiveness and those who do and then become Christian see the grace and accept the forgiveness that Christ gives and find peace.

-- Posted by michaelbell on Sat, Jul 25, 2009, at 9:50 PM

But us Christians are "supposed" to set an example. Preferably a good one, but anymore, we're not. An excuse for one group of folks is just as good for any other group. Just sayin....

-- Posted by countrymom on Sat, Jul 25, 2009, at 11:18 PM

michaelbell,

Since you believe abortion should be a crime, what do you think the punishment should be for a woman who has an illegal abortion?

-- Posted by Richard on Sun, Jul 26, 2009, at 3:54 AM

if it was made illegal and it was proven that she had one, the punishment would be the same as murder in my book.

And you are so right country mom, Christians can be the worse example sometimes, we all need to get back to the bible more, Lord knows I am trying.

-- Posted by michaelbell on Sun, Jul 26, 2009, at 6:24 AM

abortion as with any sin can be forgiven, but to continually believe that killing unborn babies is the normal thing to do is wrong.

ABORTION

A professor in a world-acclaimed medical school once posed this medical situation -- and ethical problem -- to his students: "Here's the family history: The father has syphilis. The mother has TB. They already have had four children. The first is blind. The second had died. The third is deaf. The fourth has TB. Now the mother is pregnant again, The parents come to you for advice. They are willing to have an abortion, if you decide they should. What do you say?"

The students gave various individual opinions, and then the professor asked them to break into small groups for "consultation." All of the groups came back to report that they would recommend abortion.

"Congratulations," the professor said, "You just took the life of Beethoven!"

Total abortions since 1973 48,589,993

A baby is killed every 24 sec.

1/3 of this generation has been wiped out.

I'm glad they weren't performing abortions back when Jesus was conceived.

Yes, it is great that they recognized abortion as murder when Jesus was conceived.

Mary would have had an easy out from the shame of being with child out of wedock if abortions were accepted.

Amazing how the slow passing of 2000 years allows a wrong to become viewed a right. Only Satan can be the author of confusion.

-- Posted by fruits of the spirit on Sun, Jul 26, 2009, at 1:17 PM

When you fall into the three percent (please check your numbers again, because I know, for a fact, that the percentage for fetal health is now at 3 percent) who are seeking abortions for a fetal anomoly, the last thing you need is a self-righteous, judgmental so-called Christian telling you that you are a murderer for doing what you feel is right for your child.

A sin is a sin is a sin, so those who sit in judgment of women who have had abortions or are abortionists are just as bad as those who have sought an abortion or are an abortion doctor.

I guess I'm an attempted murderer. Last year, we found out our baby was very sick. There was no hope for her. Our amniocentesis showed she had a fatal chromosomal disorder. Her brain didn't form; she had a huge fluid-filled sac on the base of her neck. Her kidneys dind't form either, and she also had a clubbed foot, the very least of her problems. She wasn't going to make it, and since doctors don't know for sure if fetuses feel pain, there was no way to know if her conditions were causing her pain. I didn't get a definite diagnosis until I was 19 weeks, too late in Tennessee to end my pregnancy to keep her from being in pain.

We traveled to Atlanta, where we weren't able to end the pregnancy due to a clerical error on there part, so we decided to come home and carry to term. Do you know what it's like wondering if every day your very much wanted baby has died inside of you and you are carrying around a dead baby? Or waking up wondering if this is the day your baby is going to die?

We hid our trip to Atlanta from many of our family and friends because we were afraid of judgmental comments like yours, even though we knew we were doing the right thing.

Would you call it murder if a parent took their child off life support or decided to discontinue treatment for their terminally ill child? I doubt it, but ending a pregnancy due to a fatal prenatal diagnosis is the exact same thing.

How dare you sit in judgment of someone going through the worst thing they've ever had to experience?

Nurse Catherina Cenzon-DeCarlo was given a freewill just like the rest of us. She chose to accept Religious beliefs that abortion is wrong. Life as a human begins when we take air into our lungs.

A Fetus is a life form that is on a life support system, the umbilical chord connected to the mother. If the fetus is removed from the womb or life support system, it would more than likely die, because it has never taken in air into its lungs. Until it breathes in air, it is not a living breathing life as we know life.

Nurse Catherina Cenzon-DeCarlo knew in her mind that an abortion was murder, according to her religion, yet she chose to assist in the operation to murder this fetus before it became a life, in order to keep her job.

See how easy it is for the world, which Satan is the God of, to make the Christian go against their beliefs?

The Anti-Christ and the Beast will have no trouble convincing the world to accept the "Mark of the Beast" just so they can keep their jobs or buy food, clothing and shelter, or keeping their home or car.

This newspaper article is just an example of how it will start when the beast takes over.

If you have religious beliefs, can to stick to them or throw it all away to save your own skin?

"If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, 10he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name."

Tamb, I feel for your situation and I know God does to, when I speak of abortion I mean when people just use it as birth control without no valid reason as yours. I would have no problem in taking a loved one off of life support if they had no other way to live[I have had to do this and do not regret it a single second of my life]

Those stats were the last ones I had read and they are about or 6 years old.

If I brought back bad memories I am sorry, that is why I talk of the saving grace of Jesus for when you do have to make hard choices like that he can guide you through them.

-- Posted by michaelbell on Sun, Jul 26, 2009, at 5:03 PM

Thank you, Michael. I appreciate those words. But, when laws are made to affect abortions, it affects everyone needing one, not just those who use it for convenience reasons.

Our trip to Atlanta happened a year ago next weekend, so it's on my mind anyway. I'm really sorry if I came across too strong, but this is one issue that is very close to my heart. I shared the very basics of our story, and there is more to it than what I've revealed but the comments section here is too short for that.

-- Posted by tamb on Sun, Jul 26, 2009, at 7:45 PM

tamb, I'm so sorry you had to make that decision.

The judgements from us very Christians have made you feel bad about what you chose to do. It shouldn't be that way.

It just proves to me what is good for one may not be as good for another as well as what is bad for one may not be as bad for another. Everyones circumstances are different. We must love one another through it all.

-- Posted by countrymom on Mon, Jul 27, 2009, at 11:45 AM

Do you not trust God to judge the decisions of those to whom he gave free will to choose for themselves? In the ambiguities of life, and He is a bit vague on this one, God is a far better judge than I, and perhaps you.

-- Posted by kyosaku on Sat, Aug 8, 2009, at 5:42 AM

God indeed will judge but we are to warn our fellow people if we love them of possible wrongs and dangers.

If there could have been more loving people to warn Eve and Adam of the wrong of eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil then mankind might be in a different and better position today and not have to had experienced the fall.

Use love to warn your fellow people.

Love covers a multitude of sins.

-- Posted by Blessed Assurance on Mon, Aug 10, 2009, at 8:02 AM

I must add kyosaku, most people do not understand the word "judge" and quite often it is used as a means to avoid conviction of a sin that is brought forth from the Holy Spirit working through a loving Christian trying to warn others.

One of the favorite scriptures Satan likes to mis-use to counteract the convicting work of the Holy Spirit is:

Matthew 7

1Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Many people allow Satan to confuse them and accuse a Christian of "judging" when they are actually only properly discerning sins and warning people of the dangers of it from a heart of love.

Only a cold and noncaring heart would allow a fellow person to be exposed to a danger and not warn them.

If you love someone please warn them of the danger of sin and the denalty of death it brings and then joyfully present the Good News that there is an acceptable Attonement for it.
