Security in Iraq

Posted Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at 11:37 AM

What are we doing in Iraq? Everyday all I read or hear about is a total lack of security in a country that has been occupied by the world's most powerful military for four years. Who is in charge over there? Why are we allowing every Iraqi to walk around carrying an AK-47 or a rocket-propelled grenade? Why have we not started issuing id cards to these people, dictating a zone for them to remain in, and requiring them to remain in their specified zone? In 1944 - 1945, as the Allies took control of parts of Germany, the military enacted policies necessary to control the population. We collected weapons and radios which would be a logical step towards securing an occupied state. We issued id cards and dictated what region they had to live in. Recently it was reported that 190,000 weapons were lost in Iraq along with a substantial amount of helmets and body armor. Who is in charge over there? Before that we heard about almost $9 billion missing in Iraq? I am sure nine billion dollars would go a long way towards the purchase of weapons for our enemies. What could 9 billion dollars been used for here at home? Even worse is the fact that the 9 billion dollars hasn't even been collected in real taxes yet.

Also it was recently reported that the top generals in Iraq now feel that democracy in Iraq should not be a priority. I would be willing to bet that these generals have known this all along. They just went along with their commander-in-chief's failed policy so they would not be replaced like others before. We will see what their fate will be now that their opinions are out in the open.

The current administration hides behind classified documents and weak propaganda. The president says he is gonna listen to the commanders in the field, but removes any that do not share his opinions. Bush could possibly be the worst commander-in-chief in American history. He makes bold military decisions as if he were Dwight D. Eisenhower. At least other presidents knew when not to act. The true motives of this president are not understood yet, but the truth will come out.

I have read the post found at the link above Brian. I believe that much of what the mainstream media says is spun in whatever direction they feel like at the time. I am sure there are many good news stories coming out of Iraq that I never hear about. I am sure there are people over there that are glad we are there. At what cost though? We have spent billions of dollars on this war and lets be real, have we really achieved a great deal of success there? Four years later and billions upon billions of dollars later and we have to argue over how the media is spinning the story. The war is the issue, not how it is reported. The point of this post was to show that we forgot how to be an occupying force. With Germany we turned our occupation into the fall of the Soviet Union decades later. That is powerful. Who knows what is going to happen as a result of our actions in Iraq decades from now. I hope our occupation leads to the fall of radical Islam. But losing track of 190,000 weapons (fact) and 8.8 billion dollars (fact) is not going to help our cause.

We should not be there...

We sold those poor people the weapons we "inspeceted" for... At one point in time Saddam and Rumsfield shook hands, and were allies (and who were they against IRAN???)...

Now we have a quagmire and it is getting worse. I pray for our soldiers and the leaders to make conscious, thoughtful, and futuristic decisions... It was irresponisble for us to even launch our invasion there, so for the U.S. to leave, wouldn't be irresponsible, it would be the best thing to do.
