Elections and puppies and storms, oh my!

Posted Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 8:20 AM

My name is not Dorothy and I'm definitely not from Kansas, but the last few days certainly have me wondering which way is up!

This is an extraordinary election year and I had the opportunity to call in election results last night to the Associated Press. I was a bit nervous at the beginning of the night, simply for my lack of experience in that department, but thanks to John Carney, the night was a breeze -- in more ways than one.

While we were at the Courthouse, we got word that the fierce storms that had torn through Memphis were headed northeast. Ok, that's enough to make me nervous.

I don't do well with tornado warnings. Having grown up in the Northeast, I can handle blizzards, driving on ice and freezing weather conditions for long periods of time, but when it comes to tornado warnings I turn into Nervous Nellie.

So, with the news of storms heading our way, I knew it would be another night of no sleep. Yes, another night of no sleep.

The night before last, my Shih Tzu dog, Lizzie, gave birth to a litter of six puppies between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. I remained by her side for most of the entire process, and what an incredible process it was!

Last night, it was a combination of puppies and storms that have me feeling foggy today.

But all is well that ends well and that means I stop complaining about being tired right now! I have six beautiful healthy puppies, and I still have a house!

My heart goes out to all of those who suffered from last night's storms.

Aw! Congrats on your new grandbabies! LoL How sweet! It'll be just like having a newborn at home.

Also, my heart and prayers go out to everyone that the storm affected.

I have a Shih Tzu also she woke me up this morning during the storm trying to crawl under my pillow.

Storms scare her, this one didn't do much for me either :>(

So I just tucked her under the blanket and waited for the storm to pass..

Congrats on the new babies they are the cutest puppies ever, aren't they..

Chris and I are happy to know that you and yours are okay after the storms last night. He was on his way home from Mississippi when I told him about the severe weather moving in. But, he made it in before the second round of it hit during the middle of the night.

I usually do pretty well during storms, but the last couple of weeks when we've had bad weatherI've been a bit uneasy, so I was glad when he got home.

Also, congratulations on the birth of the puppies! I hope mom and all the babies are doing great!

Take care.....

They are the cutest puppies it the world. Has yours had puppies before? I am really nervous that she had so many. Six puppies seems like a lot for her little body to feed. And they all look so much alike it's hard for me to tell which pups are eating the most and which ones might not be getting enough.

Any advice is welcomed!!!

No Sadie I am sorry to say My baby girl has never had puppies. And probably never will, she is just too small. I am afraid for her to try. She only weighs about 4 pounds and she's over a year old.

It would totally kill me if something happened to her because she was having puppies. So I decided it may be best not to let her.

I have a friend who raises Shih Tzu's here in Shelbyville and she would be the one to ask any questions you may have..she is wonderful with these puppies.

Bo has my email addy and I don't mind at all if he gives it to you. I just don't want to post mine or my friends personal info on the net.

But she can tell you everything you will need to know and would be happy to help you.

Just let me know and I will tell you how to get in touch with her.

Now you know how strong a woman you are. You survived the Primaries, the Storm, and you helped bring in six new souls into this world.

What a remarkable and memorable day for you!
