Twins!

No, not me!
My co-worker Doug Dezotell asked me yesterday why so many celebrities these days are having twins. Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie, Marcia Cross, Julia Roberts, Dennis Quaid's wife, and Denzel Washington's wife are just a few that come to mind quickly. My first thought was maybe it's because of fertility treatments. Perhaps some of the celebrities have had trouble conceiving naturally, and can afford the very IVF expensive treatments that are less likely to produce six babies. Mary Reeves said maybe it's because a lot of women are waiting later in their lives before starting families. Older women tend to release more eggs at one time. Have you ever heard about the theory that all left handed people are twins? According to this theory, the mother absorbs the other twin, and so it never develops, but the one who is born is left handed. Since left handed people tend to be into the arts, it would make sense that celebrities produce more twins. Who knows, but it's kind of interesting to think about. There may be a theory about all left handed people being twins, but I'm proof that's not always true. My brother and I both are left-handed and we were born a year apart. Neither mom or dad are lefties, but dad's sister is, and she's not a twin. As far as being artistic, I'm definitely not, but my brother is very talented.
It is interesting. I've got twin boys, who are now 5 and it seems like since I had them that everyone is having them. No fertility for me and I was only 24 when I got pregnant and I'm definetly not a celebrity so....I was just lucky!
k_collins39, the blog says that the mother absorbs the other and so it never develops. So it could be possible that you were going to have a twin, as well as your brother. I've never heard the theories on left-handed people. I never really thought about it though! Thanks for sharing!!

parental guidance is lacking bigtime in our society. that may be politically incorrect, but it is the downright truth. more and more kids do whatever they want whenever they want to, and that starts in the home.

Maybe because there is nothing fun to do? Let's see, you can't cruise, you can't hang out anywhere, there is no real teen activities around this town. It is either young child or adult oriented. So what to do that is free, fun to do and feels good?
Is there any education regarding what happens if the girl gets pregnant?
I have heard the "Vanishing Twin" therory and find it very interesting.
"Scientists have confirmed that the number of twin conceptions greatly outnumbers the number of actual twin births. Some estimates offer that 1 in 8 people started life as a twin, while in reality only 1 in 70 actually are a twin. In "Having Twins," author Elizabeth Noble claims that 80% of twin pregnancies result in the loss of one or both babies. Other studies predict that Vanishing Twin Syndrome occurs in 21 - 30% of all multiple pregnancies in the United States. It is estimated that Vanishing Twin Syndrome will play a role in 50% of assisted ovulation pregnancies."

I didn't realize that 1 in 70 people are actually twins. That sounds high to me.
I wish that twin I absorbed while carrying our older left-handed son would leave my body. Perhaps a few pounds would go with it.
