Cabbage Patches and the craze of Christmas

Posted Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at 3:40 PM

I was writing my column for next Sunday about one of my first memories as a child. I was about five years old, celebrating Christmas with my aunt in Buffalo, NY. I remember a blizzard, and I remember wanting a pair of Cabbage Patch kids for Christmas.

I was devastated when I only received one doll. God only knows what all my poor mom probably went through to get that one doll.

That was one of the biggest commercial Christmas crazes of all time.

What Christmas crazes have you fallen for in the past? Was it worth it?

The Bubba Lion talking doll/stuffed animal thing. Idk what he was. He was a lion with overalls, and sunglasses and he talked. He was cute.

I just found out there is an awesome Cabbage Patch hospital in GA. I hope to one day visit it as I was told it is awesome.

Here is a link to it.

Oh, I remember the Tickle Me Elmo and the Teletubies craze. My oldest was a baby at the time and she loved Elmo and Po. So I drove all over trying to find them. I finally found a Po, but couldn't get the Tickle Me Elmo. I ended up getting it for her later on, but they were worth it because even though she's 12yrs old now, she still has them sitting in her room.

I loved it when mine where little and you can see their adorable expressions come Christmas morning and their reactions. They were picky or fussing about what they got. They would sooner play with the box the toy came in more than the actual toy.

Tickle me Elmo I remember going to every store in Tennessee looking for this little guy and finally found one in Alabama.

Was it worth it? To me: not really, we spent a lot of gas money searching and paid an over price but to the baby girl, Yes it was worth it. Her eyes lit up bigger than the Christmas Tree. so yea all in all it was worth all the trouble.
