Goodbye cookies ... thanks, Jean

I love the holidays, when we let go of diets and restrictions and make way for sweet potato casserole and Christmas cookies -- special Christmas cookies, like those made by Jean Raby.

Ms. Jean, of Normandy, has been baking up a storm for the last few decades. Each Christmas, hundreds of her friends and family members look forward to the cookies she'll deliver. Starting on the project weeks in advance, Jean prepares thousands - like 6,000 or so - cookies of many, many different varieties. And we're not talking sugar cookies.

We look forward to Jean's gourmet selection here in the news room, and our eyes lit up to see Mr. Raby, delivery man, come by with our very own tin earlier this week.

I recently learned this year will be Ms. Jean's last year to make the cookies. Her husband said it's time for Jean to scale back and pull back from the project that's become a massive undertaking.

I don't blame her.

I'm just thankful to have made it on her cookie list.

I look forward to Plum Pudding and Custard. A family tradition we brought with us from England.
