  • If you think that being president you would have nothing better to do than concern himself with White House tours it's obvious why you are a republican.

If you can't see that whining about not getting what you want while calling for everyone else to take a cut is acting like a child, it's obvious why you are a republican.

If you can't see that of all the government services that will be effected , making news out of something as unimportant as White House tours is politically motivated it's understandable why you are a republican.

If you can't understand that worrying about the select few that get White House tours instead of all the other people affected by the sequester "lacks seriousness" , it's understandable why you are a republican.

So when the military begins to see the effects of the sequester will you still be calling for more White House tours? I somehow doubt it.

  • This administration is nothing but a big joke. You cancel White House tours but you won't cut the personal assistants that work for Michelle(hair, makeup, chef). I'm sure she put her own makeup on and fixed her own hair before they got into the White House. So, she surely does not need them.

Cutting White House tours may sound minute, but look at how many schools had plans to visit it. Look at how it is a staple of education in this country.

I wonder when the administration is going to acknowledge all of the aliens that got released due to the "cut in budgets". What about all of the state dinners, million dollar vacations, and spending sprees that he and his family have been on? I know his welfare supporters don't really care what he cuts as long as they get their checks every month. But, those of us who work hard for our living, live within our means, and live on a budget care. I'm tired of my tax money being used for nonsense spending like sending money overseas, providing free healthcare, food, and housing to aliens and prisoners. Stop the hand-outs to aliens and that will save millions if not billions a year.

Instead, this administration would rather cut something that is not really going to save money just to place blame on others. It's like you have to choose between buying food versus a video game and you choose the video game. I'll be glad when this dictator is out of office and the next person can try and pick up the pieces (if there is any left).

  • The Republican congress passed the sequestration, Obama signed it and all agreed to the percentage of across the board cuts. We all know that some jobs can not have a 5% or higher cut and still get done properly. Security is one of them. This is just an adjustment in the security assignments to keep the high priority assignments and letting go of the lower priority. Close the house to public tours and you save money. That is what the Republicans wanted, so quit complaining. The republicans can cure the problem by pushing a bill that specifically funds the security for the tours as well as the tour leaders.

  • WoundedKnee- First I don't consider myself to be a Republican, I have voted for Republicans as well as Democrats and Independents. I, unlike so many do not go blindly to the polls ready to cast my vote by the (R) or the (D) but try to vote for whom I feel would be best at the job. Second why do so many people quickly jump to the conclusion that anyone that criticizes Obama is a Republican? Or start your argument with "Well Bush did...." If I had been writing this blog while Bush was in office I would have been criticizing him as well! Have you not ever criticized the actions of someone whom you voted for? Or do you always agree with whatever they say or do?

That being said, I do think that the President has more pressing things to worry about than White House tours, but the fact of the matter is that the Obama administration choose to suspend the tours and the decision was reported on by the media thus making it a topic of discussion among many.

As for whining about not getting what you want, I'm not whining, I am simply stating some facts and my opinion about those facts. Having or not having White House tours does not affect me personally. I have never been on one and most likely never will.

I can agree that cutting White House tours could be considered to be on the list of things to cut to save money but it is hard to consider the effort serious when the cuts shave $18k a week from the Secret Service budget when a couple of golf outings or vacations could shave millions.

The point I am trying to make is that I feel our government can and should make some drastic cuts to its spending but no one is showing any serious effort to do so. If cutting 2.4% of the budget is not feasible for our leaders to manage without causing the loss of fireman, police and teachers but yet we still can give hundreds of millions of dollars to foreign countries, then we all should give up on our government ever cutting spending and sit quietly as the amount of debt continues to grow by trillions!

If you feel that makes me a Republican, then so be it that is your right, but I think it makes me a concerned citizen who is tired of the political sides and tired of the millionaire politicians telling us how to live as they do as they please at our expense!

  • Sequester has always been a republican ideal (no, I mean ideal). Their other attempts has been avoided through compromise. So enter the Hastert Rule for the republican party...it made compromise impossible ensuring that sequester would be enacted. Now they try to avoid taking responsibility for the results.

  • The last time I read a history book, the White House belonged to the American people, not an administration. I think that includes the United States of America as well. This still is a democracy right?

-- Posted by Merci on Tue, Mar 12, 2013, at 1:13 PM
  • It's actually a Republic.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

  • Wounded Knee, I am sorry you chose the handle to push your agenda. You are entitled to your beliefs, but using something that means so much to so many Native Americans as a political ploy is really bad.

  • Mr. Simmons thank you for the Blog. Facts are Facts.

  • The screen name I chose had nothing to do with my political agenda. It had more to do with my love for history and this being part of history that I enjoy reading. If it makes you feel any better I did try tried Crazy Horse, however, it was already taken. Maybe I should have chose Wolf Clan # 2. And you're right facts are facts.

  • Unless you are also a member of the Wolf Clan, I don't think that would be appropriate either. This was not intended to hurt your feelings. We are just a little sensitive to these things. Politics has always been against us. Thanks for your attention.

  • The same administration that has literally thrown away billions on failed "green energy" companies and spends untold millions on fancy vacations, golf outings and other crap nowtells the American citizenry that we can't visit OUR house because of budget restraints. Not to mention the fact that they have just given billions in aid and weaponry to Egypt, a country now being controlled by the radical Muslim Brotherhood. Describing this administration as a joke is an understatement. This administration is a train wreck! By the way, I'm not a Republican either, just an American citizen that can see right through their so called "transparency."

-- Posted by Tim Lokey on Tue, Mar 12, 2013, at 9:52 PM
  • Of course we will give arms to Egypt. America sells lots of arms to everybody. It's what we do. We arm our friends, and our allies, and our kind-of sort-of allies, and we even arm our enemies. Then we arm ourselves.

Welcome to American Foreign Policy for the last 30+ years.

  • This administration is a selfish administration. All about what the Obamas can do for themselves for entertainment and power. It can be described for the citizens of America as being led by arrogance with dumb and dumber following. And I, too, do not claim to be "of a party" ... just a conservative who sees waste beyond measure.

  • You Obama bashers should do a little honest research before complaining about vacation time and money spent by our President. If you did you would find that he hasnt even spent half the time or money on vacations that Bush,or your hero Ronnie Reagan did. And I don't blame him for cutting the white house tours. Who wants all those rug rats running around the place. Take the little curtain climbers Chuckie Cheese.

  • Was Dumb and Dumber a movie, where two actors (Cheney & Bush) dreamed up WMD's and one pretended to land on a aircraft carrier in a flight jacket ranting "Mission Accomplished"? Oh! wait a minute, "Dumb and Dumber" that's a movie with Jim Carrey, my bad.

  • "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"......WoundedKnee, would you be so kind as to inform us in which of our founding documents this statement is found?

-- Posted by cmcclanahan on Wed, Mar 13, 2013, at 7:29 PM
  • The pledge is not in the founding documents, however it refers to this country as a republic. " Benjamin Franklin was asked by a group of citizens what kind of government had been settled upon. Franklin replied, " A republic, if you can keep it." What he meant by a "a republic" was a limited government adopted by the body of eligible citizens and administered by elected officials sworn to uphold the citizens rights and liberties. Franklin did not call the government a "democracy" because, in the Founding period, democracy meant direct rule by the citizens themselves.

-- Posted by WoundedKnee on Wed, Mar 13, 2013, at 8:30 PM
  • I hesitate to post on this as I see it is mostly the same old divided R vs D rheotric.

They work together folks! Don't let them fool you into thinking they don't and thereby divide us against each other. One is for big government, the other is for big business. Together, big business and big government are taking control of everything, and sending us the bill(s)!

They worked together for sequestor also, the Obama White House proposed it, the GOP accepted it. They both passed it!

White house tours mean nothing to me and yes, I am sure cuts could have been made in other areas that would have been more effective. Even the liberal media pointed out on the evening news that most political pundits believed Obama was over dramatizing the effects of sequestor. That's what my kids do when trying to get their way. Oh, the DRAMA! The GOP is no better!

Here is the thing. Sequestor is a 2% cut in spending. We ALL had a 2% cut in spending at the first of the year when the payroll tax was raised 2%.

Now, some will say Obama cut the tax, so he just raised it back to where it was, which is true. But, I know my spending was cut, so I won't be taking a trip to the white house anyway.

A 2% cut in spending is nowhere near the amount that spending was increased by both Obama and the GOP.

    http://www.factcheck.org/2012/06/obamas-spending-inferno-or-not/

According to factcheck spending was increased 18% when Obama took office and has remained at that level, or above ever since. Again, some will say that Bush did that with the bank bailouts before Obama took office, which is true. But, maintaining that high level of spending increase since then, and then crying, and snatching toys, like spoiled brat children when a mere 2% is cut from the 18%+ increase shows the striking similarities between the Ds and the Rs.

All the BS is easily cut through by one number, The NATIONAL DEBT (not to be confused with annual deficit)! This number reflects the ineptness of the politicians to do their job in our representative REPUBLIC. This number has increased under every administration since the turn of the 20th century regardless of which party was in control. That includes the Clinton administration as well:0

So, both parties worked together to bring us 16 trillion dollars of National Debt also.

Ok, I'm done, have a nice day:)

-- Posted by Liveforlight on Wed, Mar 13, 2013, at 8:42 PM
  • Wounded Knee, I guess you need to inform Mr. Obama that he is suppose to be "representing" Americans and not foreign affairs.

Liveforlight, you are correct. The parties are what divides this country. It's sad that people assume that if you believe one way that you are a part of that political party. Not everyone goes to the poll (like stated above), blind. Not everyone thinks that just because they consider themselves a Dem that they HAVE to vote for every Dem. I think it's time to do away with the parties. It really serves no purpose but to cause divisions and problems.

But I will have to say that both parties may have had a hand in the raising of the debt, but during this administration it has been the most expensive. They've treated the country like it was their own personal shopping card. And there is a HUGE difference of the Bush's going to their ranch versus the Obamas going to Hawaii. Bush didn't go on vacation (as far as I can remember) when we were in a crisis. However, Obama and his family were in Hawaii when the tax cuts were set to expire. He was golfing when he should have been in the office discussing the sequestor. And, as we all know, if you disagree with this administration you end up being labeled a racist. That is why everyone ends up giving the dictator what he wants. He's like that brat you see in Wal-mart whining and crying about getting a toy. Getting louder and louder and louder. Soon, you give in just to shut him up. Obama thinks he's almighty, but the again, the last time I checked, the president really has no real powers - he's just a spokesman.

  • A recession started in 2001 as Bush took office after 22 million jobs were created during the Clinton Administration from 1993 to 2000. Bush began wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and presided over the loss of 4 million jobs. The debt when Bush left office was $10.6 trillion compared to Obama's 4.7 trillion http://www.factcheck.org/2012/02/dueling-debt-deceptions/. In 2005, the Washington Post noted President Bush's frequent vacations in a piece titled Vacationing Bush Poised To Set a record as Bush took the longest single vacation -- 5 weeks -- of any President in 36 years. President Bush spent 32% of his presidency on vacation. No President can come close to Bush's 1,020 days on vacation in an 8 year period. Even Lyndon Johnson, who spent 484 days at his ranch in Texas and at Camp David during his presidency came under Bush. Even President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was in office 12 years from 1933 to 1945, was on vacation less days than President Bush at 958 days. Some claim the cost of Bush frequent trips to Crawford, Texas cost taxpayers upwards of up to 20 million but the numbers are hard to confirm.

-- Posted by WoundedKnee on Thu, Mar 14, 2013, at 10:11 AM
  • A bit misleading wounded knee. When Bush left office the debt was 10.6 trillion but he was only responsible for 4.9 of it after eight yrs.. Obama added more than that in less than four.

You can't blame Bush for the recession when he took office any more than you can blame Obama for the more recent recession when he took office. Neither one had made in policy that was in effect at those times. Again, we see the two pulling together taking us in the same direction. More debt!!

Only the people pulling together can make real change and that seems unlikely.

-- Posted by Liveforlight on Thu, Mar 14, 2013, at 3:20 PM
  • Liveforlight It's true. They both contributed, the debt. It's $5.3 trillion since Obama took office in 2009, compared to $4.9 trillion in Bush's eight years. Sorry didn't mean to mislead no one.

-- Posted by WoundedKnee on Thu, Mar 14, 2013, at 6:59 PM
  • No problem Woundedknee, we all get carried away with our points of view sometimes.

"We the people" own this country, and we need to unite in order to hold our politicians (both/all parties) accountable. Letting them divide us is not going to help accomplish that, as we have seen.

-- Posted by Liveforlight on Thu, Mar 14, 2013, at 8:05 PM
  • Every one here knows that Bush took more vacations than any other president'but no one complained then. Now some seem to have a problem with Obama just being in the White House. He and his family deserves the same lifestyle every president had.Complaining about Michele Obamas getting her hair and makeup done is ridiculus. She spends less on clothes than any presidents wife.No one complained when Nancy Reagan spent thousands on hand sewn sheets.WoundedKnee is correct. Look up how many days Bush vacationed and how much it cost America. Then compare this to buying makeup.President Obama should not cut his staff,no other president did.We have americans unemployed, uninsured, foreclosed homes, and hungry children and seniors. And some worry about White House tours being canceled. This is only political.

-- Posted by lets be real on Thu, Mar 21, 2013, at 12:06 PM
  • I forgot another comment.Michele Obama spends her own personal money at times.I will bet that the Obama children are the only kids in the White house to wear hand me downs proven by photos at different occasions.

  • lets be real - I see things have not changed much here on the blogs LOL they are still whinning and crying over the fact that PRESIDENT Obama is in office. They still show their hypocritcy by crabbing over things that PRESIDENT Obama does same as the presidents before him but now ALL OF A SUDDEN they are all panicked - for example the vacations LOL but lets do a bit of reality check here LOL "President Obama in his first four years has taken 131 days, dividing his time between Hawaii, Martha's Vineyard and, of course, Camp David, the official get away of U.S. presidents. At this rate, he could hit 262 days by the end of his eighth year, about average for modern presidents.

He certainly is not the king of vacation days. That honor falls to President George W. Bush, who racked up 1,020 vacation days in his eight years in office, including one five-week vacation, the most of any president in 36 years.

SO the humor here is in the obvious hate agenda and B/S they continue to puppet. It is actually getting comical where was all this concern and interest when their hero Bush was in office LOL They CHOOSE to ignore facts and suck up anything they can manipulate to feed their hate for PRESIDENT Obama. They have a do nothing useless congress who REFUSES to represent the live people of this country they are so in the skin of the corporate ( you know the fake people they think are more important than the living breathing ones) They cry right to life then do everything they can to shorten the life spans of those not worthy enough and determined by their income levels.... Yea sure people will say I'm nuts and whatever but when you break down actions and reality you know thing that are FACTUAL it is what it is. They are simple filled with irrational hate for PRESIDENT Obama and need their fix of hate and obstruction to get them through LOL. It is of no use to debate facts to them - they do not want them --- I had one man when we were discussing an issue when the facts were ( he admitted correct) un-arguable simple told me " I do not care what the FACTS are I have my opinion and that's all I care about" And this man is well educated, honorable man - and so honest he put it right where it was --- facts don't matter it is their hate that guides them first and foremost. God help us, when what used to be the moral majority has strayed to such depths as they are now.

WHen you accuse the current president of something - it will be compared to past presidents. If you can not handle the truth you have a problem.

-- Posted by lets be real on Fri, Mar 29, 2013, at 11:02 AM
  • The Bushes were beaten just as badly, if not worse, than the Obamas. The liberal media made sure of that.

There is no difference! That is what I have been saying. They are the same! D, or R, you get the other side of the coin. More government control! No change, except for more waste, fraud, corruption and DEBT. It needs to stop, and there is no time but the present.

  • White house tours are the least of our problems.America needs to worry about the poor, homeless.uninsured and the unemployed.I am not talking about lazy people who refuse to work,I am talking about uninsured veterans, the low wage workers, the sick with pre existing illness and the homeless through no fault of their own.Now the republican governers in the south (the poorest states) refuse to expand medicaid to the poor. Then take the federal money and give it to big insurance companies, who will give the poor coverage they cannot afford. They should be ashamed.Gov Hasslam and his family gets government insurance, why cant he do the same for the poor of Tennessee. This will cause rural hospital to go under and more unemployment.Yes I think white house tours should be canceled for now.

-- Posted by lets be real on Mon, Apr 1, 2013, at 10:42 AM
  • lets be real- To address a couple of your comments...

The issue is not that we NEED White House tours above anything else. Yes, there are a lot of things more important. The point I am trying to make is that the Obama administration basically claimed that chaos would occur from the sequester, people would lose their jobs, we would lose teachers, firefighters and police officers. Obama made the case that the government needed that money to survive. Canceling the tours was due to the fact that the Secret Service agency needed to make cuts to their budget, yet Obama doesn't seem to care about using the Secret Service or their budget when he goes on lavish vacations and he even sends his daughters on separate vacations with 20+ Secret Service agents. Yes, other presidents before Obama took many vacations and yes,Bush took more than any, but I don't recall any of them stating how bad cuts to the Secret Service agency were needed before they used the Secret Service to accompany them on vacation and just because other president's took advantage of taxpayers to go on multiple vacations I do not think that Obama or any other president after him deserves or needs numerous lavish vacations a year at a time when our country is in an absurd amount of debt. A leader, excuse me, a GOOD leader is to lead by example and when you make the speech that cuts to the budget are going to cause drastic changes that affect average Americans and then send your daughters to the Bahamas with the protection of the same agency that you just made cuts to that resulted in the suspension of White House tours is not, in my opinion leading by example!
