Note: The nature of the Internet makes it impractical for our staff to review every comment. Please note that those who post comments on this website may do so using a screen name, which may or may not reflect a website user's actual name. Readers should be careful not to assign comments to real people who may have names similar to screen names. Refrain from obscenity in your comments, and to keep discussions civil, don't say anything in a way your grandmother would be ashamed to read.
  • Hate has never solved a single problem on this planet. It has however, created most of them.

  • Amen to both comments and the word Amen can be said in all the religions and cultures of this world.

Although I am Christian, I believe all faiths are honoring the same God, so I agree with not only one Nation under God, but our whole world under God.

What the news media does not do I'm afraid the internet does anyway. The problem is that no one (NO ONE) seems to be able to report it without human bias.

Once the word is in print or virtual print it can then be read, interpreted or misinterpreted in as many ways imaginable.

  • Well said, Rodney; without taking sides or, placing blame. I believe that most people would get along, and that we have a great capacity to be understanding, respectful, and tolerant of one another as individuals. It is when we perceive one another as groups that we falter.

I also agree and will continue praying regularly for our country and for peace.

  • Humility must come first, then, Praying is a good start, but it is only a start. In addition, we must "SEEK" and "TURN". Otherwise, I wouldn't be expecting the healing to take place.

    2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and PRAY and SEEK my face and TURN from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

  • Tribalism, nationalism, racism, etc. is the problem. Us and Them is the problem. Those who don't look like me, think like me, worship like me, those people are "others". And when you think like that it's very easy to dehumanize others.

And once you dehumanize a group of people, atrocities follow.

I think globally and I have for many years. A life lost in a far away country means just as much to me as one lost a mile from my house. Because I know that people are basically the same, all over the world.

I will not pray for our nation, nor any nation. But I will weep for mankind, and hope that in time we will abandon our primitive ways of thinking and become one. I only wish I could be here to see it, what a wonderful world THAT would be.

  • James 2:20

"But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?"

I guess we are expected to put or actions where our prayers are.... It is not enough to read the Bible be need to back it up with our actions. You can not expect to pray for peace when you leave your home and hate your neighbor.....is just one example

It is one thing to say your a Christian, but those words are empty if your actions are filled with hate and lies, it you spit on the teachings of Christ. _If we can not remember the simple thing that we are all Gods children and that Jesus came to save the sinners, prayers are of little value.

  • It's easy to say just pray about it, Hi ow about pray and do something about it. Get involved, volunteer, teach or mentor someone.Change starts with the individual.

  • Re united and divided in USA public discourse for both religion and politics: From 1789 to, say, 20 years ago, Americans saw USA government and its organization as something very special, even providing for the meaning of a national identity and diversity of religion expressly so that both USA government and each religion were not only tolerated but respected and/or cherished. For, say, 20 years at least, problems have not been solved; government can or will not solve problems; the world shrinks due to instant communication and modern air travel; each takes care of their own as was always true; and religions either retreat within themselves or do nothing to really reach out to others. Result: a fragile national identity defined by diversity and depending on a special government breaks.
