New bird getting water, at least new to us. Can someone ID for us?Posted Monday, September 3, 2007, at 5:50 PM
New arrival needs identifying
On a side note, we have a number of feeders that the squirrels feed on, but by putting this watering dish and a feeder on an old wire umbrella table, we seemed to have stumped them. Neither the squirrels nor our cats have figured out they need to jump to the higher table. They go to the little one underneath and look up. Of course, if they read this, the jig is up. I'm no bird expert, but if I could make a guess, I'd think it's some kind of goldfinch. Very pretty, tho. I like the orange marking just above the shoulder.
We have had several different finches this year. This one is almost twice the size of others.
I have a purple (blue) finch in the original picture but cropped it out so I would not confuse folks as to which one I was inquiring about.
Thanks for your suggestion. I will check in the finch family.
