A hidden valuable resource, can you help?Posted Friday, November 30, 2007, at 9:01 AM
I purposely did not say what that resource was or the topic, because I did not want people to prejudge and move on.
The resource is our senior citizens and the topic is the way they used to garden in the "good old days". There is all kind of gardening advice scattered across the internet and in print, but rarely do I find information about our Middle Tennessee area.
What I would like to do is have conversations with as many "seasoned" gardeners as possible, so we can share their experiences in the garden. Now the chances that they are reading this blog is slim, so I need your help in locating them.
I will probably start with the nursing homes, where I will ask the management to ask the guests. If they were gardeners, I would bet that many of them would love to have the company and would love to talk about that part of their lives.
The folks I can not locate will be in assisted living, living at home, or with relatives. I will be happy to meet with any of you who want to "check me out" before putting me in touch with your loved ones and I encourage that. Better yet, come with me. I bet they would love an extra visit.
I am not quite sure what I plan to do with this just yet. I know it won't be turned into a movie, but maybe some articles to the T-G, or something like that. If nothing else, our sage gardeners will know that their observations and experiences are valued and have been heard and written down. Some may just enjoy the visit. I know I will.
