  • Practice on paper until you feel that the settings are right to save envelopes.

  • Thanks for asking my question for me, Steve.

Here's what's going on. I have a custom graphic I made with PaintShop Pro, and saved the graphic as a .jpg in a folder on my harddrive. Pretty much, it's a clipart now.

In WordPerfect 12, I start a new project as an envelope. I entered the dimensions of the custom envelope, since greeting card envelopes are not in the list of default sizes. I made the necessary adjustments to the addresses' positions so that in the preview box they looked nice and even, taking consideration for the clipart I intended to use. Then, I clicked "add graphic", browsed thru my files, and positioned my custom clipart. Just when I thought everything was just perfect, I clicked print. My printer fed out all but the last 2 inches or so of the first envelope before actually printing. Then, when it reached the end of that envelope, it started on the second one to finsih the job.

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?

  • Ignore the envelope function in word perfect (has a mind of its own). Just think of it as a piece of paper. Do like nathan suggested and use trash paper until you have it aligned the correct way. Then print your envelopes.

Hint: customize the sheet size to the envelope size and make sure you have the page orientation and the envelopes inserted into the printer in the same direction.

  • Did you get this working correctly?

  • No, I am about to pull my hair out. I tried printing on regular paper, using the custom size dimensions, and the printer still rolls out over half the paper before it starts to print.

I really wish I knew what I was doing wrong. Except for the addresses being too high up on the paper, it looks great. The graphic is printing nice and cleanly.

If someone would be willing to try one for themselves, then walk me thru what I'm doing wrong, the dimensions of the envelope are Width= 7" and Height= 5"

Thanks to all who are responding. I really would like to send personalized Christmas cards this year with pretty envelopes. Maybe I should have practiced this in August, ha ha!

  • craftin_mom,

    Several questions,

    What Printer are you using?

Are you printing in landscape or portait mode?

    Do you have MS Word?

Lastly, do you have a image editor, Adobe CS or Photo stuff software

  • Hi EvilMonkey.

My printer is a Lexmark Z12

I am printing in Landscape mode so that the addresses look "sideways" on the paper.

I do not have MS Word. Only WordPerfect 12.

For image editors, I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 with ImageReady CS2, and PaintShop Pro 9.

I created the intended graphic with PaintShop Pro 9, and saved it to my harddrive as a JPG. I'm not trying to use WordPerfect 12 and PaintShop Pro 9 together. I'm getting the graphic in the correct place, and the addresses are printing. But, they are printing right off the edge of the paper, then the printer starts a new piece of paper to finish the print. Does any of this make sense?

Thanks so much for helping! :)

  • next steps would be,

    1) Check the print layout to see if the layout is clean, no margins and borders. and if that doesn't work, go to number 2.

    2) Under Printer Settings, I would print it as a 5x7 photo instead of the custom you have it set as.

  • Woo Hoo! Thanks E.M.! I never thought to specify the paper size on the Print Properties part of the printer program. Your second suggestion did the trick.

And many thanks to Steve for using his blog to help me fix this. Now I can get back into my Christmas mood, and not be so Bah-ho-hum, lol!

Many thanks to all of you!

  • I used to do alot of tech support like this. But there is nothing around here that allows me to continue that. Glad I could be of assistance.

  • I am finished with my Christmas cards now. It was just annoying that I had to reset the paper size in the Print Properties for each envelope.

But, I'm officially done with that until next year's Christmas, ha ha!

  • You are welcome Craftin__Mom

Thanks Evil Monkey. I have an eBay student looking for personal tutoring on the basic of computers. Interested?
