Garden Gleanings - Let's start the gardening club now!

Spring is upon us and no better time than NOW to see if we can get a group of gardeners together. We have had maybe 4-5 state their interest here and I bet there are at least 5 more that could help us start this.
When I was involved with the TLSA we had a tough time getting small farm folks to give up their weekend days, even though it was a subject of keen interest, so maybe an evening would be better.
If we hold it during the week, we will miss some people who travel, some who have to get their family ready for the next day, etc. That leaves Friday evening or Saturday/Sunday late afternoon or evening.
Any thoughts?
Once we set a time and place, we could take it to the T_G and see if they will publicize it for us. Since it is a development of their blog, I would thin they would live the idea. Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

Hey, we are on for Friday night at 6:30 at the Hong Kong Restaurant on Madison. Used to be the old Shoney's. I will post a new blog just to make sure people know.
6:30's good for me too...that whole working in Franklin thing...plus the wife can make it all the way from her job...at the house. Man, I wish I could telecommute...lol.
There is a salad bar and I will see if some extra veggies can be put out.
Right now we have moved the starting time to 6:30 to give a little extra time to those who might be coming from out of town. I will confirm with the restaurant tomorrow.
Mary, since you've been there - are there a lot of non-meat options?
Yes, it's the buffet Chinesse place on Madison! Yummy.
6:00 is not bad for me. My husband would totally be jealous of me eating chinesse without him, though! LoL He may have to come and eat in the lobby with our boys.
Is the Hong Kong Restaurant that buffet place on Madison in Shelbyville? If its not, could you give some directions?
Time, place? The Hong Kong Restaurant (used to be Shoneys) has a side room if you want to eat at the same time we meet. I could check and see if they would save that.
I am not hungry, just trying to think of a public place to have our first meeting.
Is 6:00 too early?
Others suggestions?
Friday nights work well for me, too.
Never too late to chime in, so anyone else out there, please let us know. As soon as we decide a time and place, we will tell the T-G.
hi i came in late on discussion but i would love to join a gardening club fridays seems good
Friday is fine with me. Anyone else want to vote?
Any thoughts on where? The time might make a difference too. After 6:00?
I also prefer Friday nights. I work weekend evenings.
I just came in to work for a few minutes...From my choices...I'd say Friday evenings. I'm a hermit on the weekends. I like to stay in my little hobbit-hole until I have to go back to work.
I don't have a lot to contribute, but I have lots of questions and I like to listen.
I guess everyone is out there gardening. I just came in and called it a day, maybe, so I will make a few comments.
As much as I love to pack rat, I am getting rid of some florescent lights today. The sparks and smoke that flew when I went to put a bulb in had something to do with it. Since they were all getting up in age, I decided to help the economy out and get some more.
The tomato, pepper and eggplant seeds can do without them until I get them replaced. But that brings up a little gripe. I opened a new bag of seed starter mix and ended up having to screen it to get all the bark and wood chips out.
And while I am on a rant, the Pennington black sunflower seed was more like mulch as well. There was at 40% chaff and foreign seed in there. When I called customer service I got a guy who sounded like a West Coast surfer who could not fathom why I was upset. "So dude, your point is what?" I bit my tongue, 'cause what I was going to say was !@#$%^&.
Beautiful day though.
