Garden Gleanings - Thanks, thanks and thanks again

The first organizational meeting of the of the new Bedford gardening club is now history. Thank you to the Times-Gazette for providing us a blog to get the momentum started and publicizing the meeting in the newspaper to catch the eye of those without computers. The attendance was probably a 50/50 split between those who knew from the blog and those who read it in the paper.

Thank you also to our hosts Nancy and Ricky Rao who allowed us to use their meeting room at the Hong Kong Buffet on Madison street. We apparently did not cause too much trouble since they have extended the use of the room to us again for our next meeting in a few weeks. Special thanks to Cindy who made sure we had our drinks and cleared our tables.

AND thank you to all who showed up. The mix was great. Some who are just starting and some who are actively growing A LOT! One of our members is cutting back their tomato plants from 250 to maybe a combined 150! Yikes, I don't know what to do with three plants harvest! We had young gardeners 18 months and younger, and seasoned members who grew younger as we sat there.

For those who planned to attend, but could not, WE MISSED YOU! I won't name names but you know.

Since half of us are bloggers and half are not, I will complete this in a letter to the editor. See you in the paper! I won't be able to submit it until tonight or Sunday so you may have to check a few day's issues.

Notice I did not say when or time of the next meeting? Read your paper!!!

It was me EastSideMom. Thanks for the link. I have two shades of purple in the iris and yellow and white/yellow buttercups. we have naturalized daylilies on our property in town, but I have remembered to get some for transplanting.

We will hold you to your promise jdw931.

Taxes are holding up my letter-to-the-editor. I HAVE to get it done today!

Steve, was it you or someone else on the other gardening topic who was looking for more Iris colors( or was that buttercups)?

There is an ad in the Marshall Tribune Treasure Hunt section about 20 or so entries down with several colors of iris and daylilies for sale. The link is www.marshalltribune.com

sorry i missed 2 sick kids!! but will make next one! i just got 300 strawberry plants in mail. cant waitto get them in ground!! also got 6 lily of the valley plants!

EM, if you have a place to grow it, I am happy to share. I only have a limited section of my water garden that I can devote to it and it grows fast, so I often have to pull it out and throw it into the compost pile.

For those of you curious, we suggested Mary take out some aggression on her plastic cups. Hope it solves the problem before out next meet. If this makes you even MORE curious, come see us at next meeting.

Your boys were fine. I am just trying to find tools small enough for them to work the fields.

Hope you are feeling better Cheryl. I had to pass up on my organic conference today in Nashville, so I can empathize. No I am not sick but had too much to do this weekend and feel sick that I could not go.

It was great meeting everyone!

I hope my boys weren't too much of a distraction.

I learned a lot, and am really glad I was there. As soon as I got home last night, I punched holes in the bottom of my plastic cups. Thanks Steve!
