  • Steve This is the first I have heard about this. Do you know what type of teen center they are thinking about?

I know these teenagers need something quickly...Gas is over $3.00 a gallon and they are not allowed to be anywhere they can't be in any parking lot even stores that have gone out of business. There is nothing in Shelbyville for them to do the police run them out of everywhere they go.Yes they have the bowling alley but do you know how expensive it is to Bowl and the movies which is about 2 hours and 25 dollars, if you are lucky....What then?

They can't afford to ride around all night heck neither could I and I have a full time job.

I just wonder what the city expects these teenagers to do on the weekends?

Seems to me they would rather them be parked somewhere anyway instead of running the risk of them having a wreck.

  • All I know at the moment is that they are sincere, upstanding folks who want to provide a safe place to hang out. They have been working on this over the past year and are in the process of getting a 501 C3 non profit charter, but the details were not set when I met them last.

When I ran the Pizza Hut in the late 70's I allowed the teenagers to hang at the restaurant as long as they came inside. I could not allow the parking lot because someone always got in trouble. It was a pretty rough group at the time.

  • That is definitely something the kids of Shelbyville need. They truly have no place to hang out except Walmart. Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Burger King and etc don't mind them coming in as long as they are eating but once they are finished it's time for them to move on..

This is one meeting I do not want to miss.

This is why I really wish we had a Starbucks or a Books a Million. The Books a Million in Franklin always seem to have a lot of teens in there hanging out reading and chatting.
