They followed the rules of the game, according to the officiating umpires.

I think we've seen the "Sportspersons of the Year" winners.

I could have expected that sort of response from Little Leaguers but I'd grown too cynical to expect it from adults.

Thank goodness,I was wrong.

We should remember the next time we trash an opposing team (or umpires) that they *could* have the kind of character and appropriate priorities set here.

This is such a wonderful story. Watching the video clip gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful display of sportsmanship. There were no loosers, only winners in this game. These young ladies learned a life lesson that will stay with them forever.

As a softball coach, I would only hope that my girls would show the same type of respect and sportsmanship,regardless of win or lose.it's just a game,but these girls truly have what it takes to be winners,no matter where they go in life.My hat is off to them!

From what I've heard, according to their rules, if they had sent in a pinch-runner it would have only been a single. Either way, this was a game that nobody in either dugout will ever forget.

I saw this on T.V. last week. I wonder how many coaches would allow their team to do this in today's win at all costs atmosphere. This is sportsmanship at its finest. I think we could all learn a lot from this display.

Did you notice at the end where it said, they reviewed the rules and it said, they could send in a pinch runner for the injured player?? LOL..

I'm glad they didn't know the proper rules, because we would have never heard this amazing story, had they did..

Get a new computer for this one!

Basically a young lady on the team is in her final year of competition in college and had never hit a home run.

As you can get, she did but injured herself as she round first base and had to crawl back to first. Her team could not help her and if she did not complete the bases, it would not be considered a home run.

A girl from the opposing team approached the umpire to see if it would count if SHE helped the girl. It would, so she and another girl carried the injured girl from base to base, touching each one until she got home.

It still brings out emotions in me. Try to get to another computer.

My husband told me about this the other day. We weren't sure if there was a video of the incident.

I only hope that my boys show respect and great sportsmanship like those girls did.

I heard about this on the radio last week. I meant to check for the video when I got home that night, but had totally forgotten about it by then. Thanks for posting the link. That is one of the best displays of sportsmanship that I have ever seen. Scratch that, it's THE best display of sportsmanship that I've ever seen. Moments like this are the stuff that great sports movies are (or at least should be) made of.

I think that even the fans won that day. After watching a game like that, I don't think that I could even go to another game because that would have made the rest of them worthless.

Thank you Steve for sharing that. I wonder how many coaches or players would do the same thing. That is exactly why sports are great for kids. It is a shame that we as adults get in the way of it all sometimes.
