eBay Chatter - eBay competitors, who are they?Posted Monday, May 26, 2008, at 3:15 PM
I realize that at a time when many eBay sellers are upset about recent changes, I may be opening a Pandora's box for negative comments but I hope we can stay on target.
In another blog, the statement was made that there are many alternatives when it comes to selling on the internet, OTHER than eBay. I asked for them there but it seemed to be a conversation stopper and I don't want it to be.
Why? Because I want to sell successfully and if someone knows of better or even close to equal marketplace to eBay, I want to try it out.
Bidville.com a division of uBid will be closing in June. It was touted as being an eBay competitor. I have visited it several times, but never found it close to the same marketplace. Apparently others felt the same.
Today I sampled their selection of 35mm digital SLR cameras and to be generous I would say there were about 200 items. Then I went to eBay with the exact same search parameters and got 25,098!
The same lopsided results have resulted when I searched numerous other "eBay competitive" sites. I liked the format on some and some tried to mimic eBay in looks and feel, but the volume of merchandise and members were not even close.
I am a firm believer in not having "all my eggs in one basket" so PLEASE, someone share the sites you know that are alive and doing well.
