eBay Chatter - How about starting a local eBay or e-commerce club?Posted Thursday, June 5, 2008, at 11:15 AM
I don't know if this will take the form of a real club but who knows? I enjoy talking about eBay and I am sure others would like to know who is out there locally. In 2006 we had over 6,400 eBayers just in Shelbyville.
We might share out experiences, tips, pitfalls, resolve problems or just get to know each other. Maybe local e-merchants as well to include those who run their own websites as well. It could be open to Bedford and all surrounding counties. Actually, if you wanted to come from Arizona, that would be OK too. I am not sure about New Jersey though. JUST KIDDING. I had to pick on some state and I have folks in NJ so..... What do you think? Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |
Steve Mills and his wife have one daughter and live on a farm outside of Bell Buckle. They previously owned two coffee/ice cream shops, currently operate an internet sales company and teach classes, but his primary job involves the paper industry worldwide. Hobbies and interests lie in gardening, photography, recorded music and of course, their pets.

yes everyone is
Hi, Am I invited? To be honest, I do not think I would have much to contribute at all, or much I would really like to learn, as I am resistant to change and it would take a force of nature to make me do things differently. I am also fairly anti-social and would be doing a lot of watching and very little talking.
I am however fascinated by how active so many of you good people are in this newspaper site. I wonder what the draw is, and I wonder how you act in person. I have only seen this for about 2 weeks and a lot of you I feel like I know (or know the person you appear to be) already, even though I have never typed a message to you.
Anyway, I promise that I am not a murderer or anything. I am totally harmless. Just curious..
So, Sunday at 6pm it is - do I just go in that door nearest the parking lot? I've never actually been in there.
Steve, Thom, and/or cfrich,
Give me a ring, at 536-1279.
Sunday 6pm, Just confirmed.
Thanks EM, I appreciate that. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone...whichever day.
Thank you EM.
Is there a limit on size of the group?
I noticed we have a blurb in Monday and today's paper. Thank you T-G.
I would also like to re-invite everyone in another blog. Sunday or Saturday? Time?
Ok I will let them know and pay the fee. My treat.
I can make either day.
Either evening is good for me too, although Sunday would probably be better. But I can make either.
I am good for Saturday or Sunday starting at 6:00 PM
Oh and don't worry about the cost.
Ok I got the Fly, just need to get a date and time so I can set it up.
Yes, and I should know better, but had the cells take a vacation. Guess I have never heard it referred to without Fly being part of it.
I may need to get more sleep at night.
Chantal, don't feel bad. It took us several months before we saw it and another couple of weeks to figure out what it was.
Yes the Fly Building right next to the library.
Is the cultural arts center the same as the Fly?
I am showing my lack of getting out, or my mind isn't clicking. Where is the cultural arts center?
Thom,
"EM - Plus you don't really know some of us...might be weirdos, you never know."
Um, have you ever read my stuff? LOL.
Ok, Library won't do it, trust me:) But Why not the cultural arts center? I am going by there after the Chamber and I can ask? Problem is, there might be a cost involved.
I'd like to contribute and suggest a place, but being new to town, I don't really know of any places.
Kind of like EM, I would suggest my house as there's plenty of room - but I also have two dogs that LOVE jumping all over everyone (which not everyone likes).
Don't know, but I will try to check it out when I am in Shelbyville tomorrow, or at least call. Does anyone know for sure?
Thom, remember a few entries ago where we discussing ideas but not acting on them. This is one I have been knocking around for a while, but I am not sure I have the energy anymore.
That might do for the first meeting. Then we could get to meet each other and possibly figure out someplace to hold a regular meeting. What about the library, does it have a meeting room that we could use?
I am sure we could go where we do for our gardening but someone is going to think I own stock there.
I'm only a little strange Thom, but don't ask my wife. She might have another opinion.
EM - Plus you don't really know some of us...might be weirdos, you never know.
Steve - If there aren't too many people there, I'm fairly sure that most restaurants would welcome a regular group of patrons. The only problem with most restaurants is that they're likely to be too noisy for a group that plans discussions.
Thanks for the offer, but I think you are right, at least hopefully we will have a few more.
I would say my house but I really not sure how many people show up, if it was 4, no problem but if there is anymore than that it would pose a problem.
OK, let's narrow it down now to Saturday or Sunday of this coming weekend. Late afternoon or evening might better for most of us probably have projects or errands during the days.
I don't have the Chamber for either of those days and for 5-6 of us it may be overkill. Any restaurants where they would not mind us sitting around for a while or a business that has a meeting room, church, ????
Weekends are definitely better for me. By the time I normally get home during the week everything's closed anyway. Any thoughts as to where?
My schedule is pretty open - I work during the day, but I think the rest of you do as well. Weekends are good.
Actually my schedule is pretty open, I will leave it up to you, thom, cfrich and whomever is wanting to join in.
I know the feeling of getting started with something!. If I put one tenth of the ideas I have had into action, there is no telling how broke I could be now. Wait a minute. There is something wrong with that statement. Hopefully it would just be the opposite, but you never know if you don't start.
I read somewhere that successful people usually have many failures before they become an "instant success".
That's what I like to see EM, someone raring to go. Our group is small enough right now that we could meet at a coffee shop or restaurant and start the ball rolling almost anytime. Weekends are more dependable for me to schedule.
Your thoughts?
When are we going to start this up?
Nope, I was just kidding. But I was definitely serious about starting something (legal) up. We've got a few ideas and we need to stop coming up with ideas and not doing anything about them. Worse comes to worst, at least we'll be able to say we tried it...lol.
The bumping is in my schedule not the Chamber. Sometimes my week does not go as planned, well maybe often, or.....
Thom, do I need to watch for you on the streets of BB?
By the way, that makes me think of a question. I won't hijack my own blog so I will start another.
how do you know when it gets bumped? I have only been to one.
Well, let us all know what you come up with. With the price of gas (this morning it was $3.94 at WM) I'm going to have to find something to supplement my income and dealing drugs is just way to risky. Umm...I was joking about that last part. I mean, it is too risky, but I was not considering it as a supplemental income source (officer).
I plan on it, but coffees often get bumped, depending on events.
ok keep me up to date on it, are you going to be at the Coffee next week?
I understand what you are experiencing EM. After a day of teaching eBay and then the gardening club tonight, I have to have my wife check behind me to see what I have goofed up. The mind goes numb.
I have the Chamber reserved for Sundays but I better check the days tomorrow when I can think straight.
err you and I LOL. God I have been working 30 hour days trying to get some sites finished.
How about Chamber of Commerce? I know you are I are a member of it.
That is exactly what envision Thom. We need to start thinking about a time and place.
Steve - We have been working on getting some sort of e-business started. I've been doing some research and I'd like to pick the brains of someone that has already done this.
If this is more a "brain-storming" group, I'm in for that too.
I would be interested in chatting with ANYONE interested in e-commerce. Big merchants, little merchants, brand new merchants. I think it would be fun to exchange ideas and challenges.
As much as I do on this computer and the internet, I am amazed at how little I really know. It is bad when you don't know enough to know you don't know enough.
Keep tabs on this blog Chantal. Now there are three of us.
If you decide to include local e-merchants, I'd like to join. I have a webshop.
We will give it a few days, then plan a get together. I will also see if the T-G will mention it this weekend.
I am in.
