Garden Gleanings - The bees are coming, the bees are comingPosted Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 7:27 AM
FINALLY, I am pleased to say the honey bees have found our wildflowers and the familiar 'buzz' is in the air. The flowers are right next to the veggie garden so I am sure some of them make a side trip however, I have not seen them there.
Most of our flowers are getting old, but since they were not visited much beforehand, maybe there is still a bountiful harvest for them. Their hive must a a good distance away. I watched their exit path and it is up over the trees and to points beyond. I am just glad they found us. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |
Steve Mills and his wife have one daughter and live on a farm outside of Bell Buckle. They previously owned two coffee/ice cream shops, currently operate an internet sales company and teach classes, but his primary job involves the paper industry worldwide. Hobbies and interests lie in gardening, photography, recorded music and of course, their pets.

My bees are only playing with the white clovers. They haven't made their way to the backyard where the food garden is, yet. However... I think this is a bit odd. I think a hummingbird has pollinated my upside down tomato buckets. I have a feeder hanging between the 2 buckets, and I'm pretty sure I've seen a bird playing around with the blooms on my vines a couple of weeks ago. And now, I have my first tomatoes emerging.
I just love those hummingbirds.
They have little white jackets about the size of a hummingbird. Now I know why.
I'm sorry, Steve, but I must be having one of my regular "Duh" moments. I don't quite understand what you are talking about little white jackets. I'm sure I'll smack myself in the forhead for asking you to elaborate, ha ha!
