Can anyone tell us how the gardening club went this past Friday?

Posted Monday, June 23, 2008, at 3:37 PM

As most from the group know, I was not able to be there because of eBay Live in Chicago. Great time by the way, even though we had to make a hospital visit for Deb's mother and they both spent a day and a half there.

All is back to normal and her Mom has decided she will wear a rubber suit and helmet the next time she travels. She fell at the convention center and now looks like she took on a gang of street thugs, but other than that, she had a good time, of sorts)

I am proud to say the garden and potted plants survived thanks to our daughter. She faithfully came to feed our furry and feathered friends and watered the potted plants.

The zukes almost got out of hand, but we now have some for zucchini bread. The cucumbers were just right for sandwiches and salads (darn, I forgot to make a sandwich this afternoon)and the tomatoes are starting to ripen.

We had our first okra before we left and green beans are ready for picking. The artichokes don't look too much different but they are alive, so....all's well.

We also had our first harvest of red potatoes last week. They were excellent and I may go get some more this afternoon. Nappa cabbage and bok choy have finished up and the bugs seem to be enjoying what is left. They are headed for the compost pile.

It did not rain much up here on the hill. I hope others had better luck. It is not as dry as last year, but lookin' a little scary.

My typing has not improved, so I think I will stop beating the keyboard for a while. Any news from YOUR garden?

Oh yes, our large cactus are now blooming. I watched a bumble bee diving for pollen during lunch and it looked like a big soft yellow pillow with a brown butt wiggling in the air. I need to go out with my camera next time.

Sorry Steve. I have not been able to make it to any of your garden meetings, but I read each one with enthusiasm. Sorry to hear about the recent loss of your pet, but glad to know that your garden is doing well. My hubby and I have planted a garden, but the weeds have taken most of it over, since we both work a full and part time job each, but we pull a weed or two when we can. Maybe soon a Friday night will have me with nothing to do and I can visit this garden club of yours. . . .

Steve...I have been off line for a week because we are moving..But I wanted to know if a name was picked for the Garden club yet?? Soon we will be all in our home and I want to start coming to the Garden Club meetings....It is a wonderful feeling to sit out in your own yard and look around and say all of this wonderful land is our's( only 1.1 acres) But it is all ours...I sit outside every nite and look up to the sky and Thank God for this wonderful place called Our Home.....

We discussed, but did not pick, a name for the club.

We felt that we would wait for a better turn out at the meeting, and also for our founder to be there.

Although we had a small turnout, fun was had by all.

Well John, I guess we are going to have to go through at least one more announcement without a name. Sorry.

espoontoon, If we get together as usual, it would put us on Friday, July 4th. Was that adjusted or is that our next date? No matter to me. I just did not want to miss it.

I picked up about 12 delicious bags of grass yesterday from someone's front yard in Tullahoma. I planned on getting out there early this morning to start putting it to use, but as normal, I was distracted. My next projected time was to take a lunch break, but.... I am still at the computer.

Who said working from home gives us time to do what we want? Wait a minute, I think I have said that. Darn! Maybe this evening.

Time for more RAIN!!!

I'm not sure if July 4th would be a good idea or not...maybe ask around and see.

By the way, saying you picked up 12 bags of grass on a newspaper blog is pretty risky!!haha

It hasn't rained at my house for 11 days I think.

And I called it delicious as well!

Let me add the word clippings and specify that they will be put on the garden. Good catch!

My yard is starting to crack. Actually, it was starting a week ago, so it is continuing. I do not water the lawn. It is natural grass and weeds and they fend for themselves.
