Why I have been quiet for the past few daysPosted Thursday, October 23, 2008, at 1:18 PM
For one thing, Debbi went out of town, which meant I had to pick up the slack involving our eBay business. She does all the shipping and I am nowhere near as organized as she.
Then came the Webb Fair at which I was involved both days quite heavily.
Next came a trip to the emergency room Sunday evening after the Fair and a subsequent transfer to Vanderbilt for my fifth heart operation. Another stent chalked up for a 99% blockage.
Then, my laptop got stuck on the letter "f" so I could not write anything or send e-mails. Since the bottom of my laptop was wet on Monday morning, I presume something was spilled, but there were no cups on the night stand so.....?
Debbi came home Monday night, so eBay is back on track and I came home yesterday and then ran back to M'boro to let the "Geek Squad" evaluate my laptop. I am starting to wonder about them.
I have bought my computers from them for the last 6 years but for some reason, they did not show this one. I also ALWAYS buy insurance on my laptops, but this one seems to have disappeared.
Then comes the cost of diagnosis. $70 to pull the keyboard and connect a remote keyboard to be sure if it WAS the keyboard, AND it was going to take three days. Supposedly this keyboard would take 45 minutes to remove.
I bought a keyboard (not from Best Buy) and removed the keyboard in about 5 minutes and tested to see that I did in fact need a new keyboard. Something smell funny here?
This is on top of two desktop computers I bought there recently and I paid the $40 something to remove all extra crap and optimize the computer. Optimize a new computer? But, I wanted the other software removed correctly so....
Thing is, they DID NOT remove the Norton Anti-virus completely and it gave me fits with conflict errors for several hours until I decided to RE-remove the software when I found reference to it in a few files. I had to do this from the Symantec website, but it worked.
To their credit, they did reimburse me for the charges, but when you take into account several hours of frustration, diagnosing and solving a problem that THEY caused, 1.5 hours in driving to M'boro and return, plus gas, I felt that they could have done a better job making me feel like they cared.
Well, enough gripe. I am back and my computer is running while I await my new keyboard.
