Your information about the origin of the photo is incorrect, and while the weather is from a real photo the drilling rig was Photoshopped:

I have seen that same tornado and lighting bolt in another photo that showed a man working on an electric pole and he was standing on one of those lifts.
Regardless of the origin this is an amazing photo. I do like the original better.
Then let's give credit to the photo shop creator. anyone know who thatw as?
Curious John. How did you track that down? Is there a data base on pictures, Photoshop pictures, or did you just know this one previously?
Just a hunch. I had seen other photos like this one that turned out not to be authentic, and so I went to Snopes and looked up "tornado" and "lightning" together.
I was pleased, actually, to see that this was at least based on a pretty amazing real photo.
Thanks for the post. The original photo is great too. I am starting a set of lessons, "Extreme Storms", this week and it fits in perfectly!
I've never used Snopes much. Did not think about search photos. Thanks John.
It was an amazing original and a good example of what can be done with photo editing software. For those of us who used to try this magic in the darkroom, it is phenomenal. (And no chemical!)
