  • Your information about the origin of the photo is incorrect, and while the weather is from a real photo the drilling rig was Photoshopped:

  • I have seen that same tornado and lighting bolt in another photo that showed a man working on an electric pole and he was standing on one of those lifts.

  • Regardless of the origin this is an amazing photo. I do like the original better.

  • Curious John. How did you track that down? Is there a data base on pictures, Photoshop pictures, or did you just know this one previously?

  • Just a hunch. I had seen other photos like this one that turned out not to be authentic, and so I went to Snopes and looked up "tornado" and "lightning" together.

I was pleased, actually, to see that this was at least based on a pretty amazing real photo.

  • Thanks for the post. The original photo is great too. I am starting a set of lessons, "Extreme Storms", this week and it fits in perfectly!

  • I've never used Snopes much. Did not think about search photos. Thanks John.

It was an amazing original and a good example of what can be done with photo editing software. For those of us who used to try this magic in the darkroom, it is phenomenal. (And no chemical!)
