Weed'em & Reap Garden Club ReportPosted Sunday, January 25, 2009, at 1:56 PM
We had a great meeting last night. Welcome to new member Judy. I hope you enjoyed the initiation program. Just kiddin' you didn't miss anything.
Since we don't usually have formal presentations, we had several conversations going and I bounced between them. I heard about flowers, vegetables, websites, nurseries, (of course seed catalogs), helping a community garden or assisted living folks and water barrel collectors. Here are to links that show a homemade collector being made and another that shows a rough sketch of how to do it. Kay, this is the link we looked at. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGFDlkJOd... http://www.naturalrainwater.com/make_rai... Last year we could not find a group or community leader who wanted to work with us on a community or enabling garden, but many of us have said they want try again, soooo if you know a project that might benefit from a bunch of fanatical gardeners, get in touch! Seeds were shared along with houseplants and we had a drawing for a book on organic growing. One of the nice things about organic is that this knowledge is time resistant. You don't have to worry that the information is out of date, since it goes waaay back in time. Our web page will be coming soon. At first it will just be to post meeting results and dates, but we eventually plan to add a forum style discussion so we can talk about OUR issues in Middle Tennessee and not what is happening in California or New York. Nothing against growers there, we can learn a lot from each other, but we have some soil, insect, and climate differences and it is nice to share with neighbors. I have books by Southern gardeners, but I am not aware of any from Mid-Tennessee. A Saturday meeting seems to be good for everyone so we will see you on Saturday, February 7th. Once again at the Hong Kong Restaurant on Madison Street in Shelbyville. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Does anyone have a Starks Bros. Catalog that I can get information from for ordering peach trees? I'm definitely ready to "think Spring."
Here is where you can request a catalog, but I have not seen one this year.
