Know your organic sources before you buy or even MAKE compost.

Posted Monday, February 9, 2009, at 6:47 PM

It is often recommended that people know your source when making compost. Here is more proof and reasons why. This Dow Chemical product not only lasts over a year but can also go through an animal's digestive track and affect plants that are fertilized with compost made from the manure.

The directions that are posted on the Iowa State University agricultural site states that "Applications should be avoided to areas where movement into water used for irrigation or drinking could occur."

What field do you know of that does not eventually drain into a watershed, stream, river and therefore into our drinking and watering systems? Are the farmers supposed to contain their water and treat it somehow?

This ingredient is used in several products.(Cleanwave, Milestone vm, Forefront r&p, and Milestone and more) Is it being sold and used in this area?
